What means all-wheel drive

All-wheel drive (4WD, 4×4, AWD) is a type of car transmission in which the torque from the engine drives both axles of the car. All-wheel drive (PP) is used on SUVs to increase cross-country. Its use on conventional cars improves driving, not off-road quality.

For obvious reasons, cars with all-wheel drive are in great and stable demand in our country. Moreover, interest in such cars is shown not only by residents of rural areas, four-wheel drive sedans and huge luxury crossovers are found in abundance on the streets of all major cities.

All-wheel drive gives a certain degree of confidence even in urban conditions, which is why 4×4 sedans are produced by almost all global automakers. All-wheel drive versions of the Volkswagen Passat, Skoda Oktavia and Ford Mondeo are especially popular in Russia.
However, crossovers and SUVs are especially common on our roads.

Of course, all of their most popular models have modifications with permanent or plug-in all-wheel drive. The only exceptions to this rule are some Chinese brands that prefer to supply exclusively front-wheel drive versions of SUVs to our market.

Why is four-wheel drive good?

The main advantage of machines with permanent all-wheel drive is their high cross-country ability. They were created for operation mainly in those places where, at best, there are dirt roads. Full-time all-wheel drive allows you to feel confident when driving in mud, deep snow or ice, as well as when overcoming water obstacles. Almost all cars equipped with a permanent all-wheel drive system have a frame structure, although there are exceptions, for example, LADA 4×4 or Mitsubishi Pajero 4.

Four-wheel drive cars are ideal for tourists and travelers, as they allow you to freely leave asphalt roads to get to the desired place. Most of these cars have large dimensions and a spacious interior, which makes it possible to turn the car into a house on wheels. It is also worth noting that large SUVs are safer than ordinary cars, because the driver has a great visibility, which means he can react in time to some kind of dangerous road situation.
