Škoda Fabia 1.4 TSI (132 kt) DSG RS

The two-tone body, that is, the roof of a different color, greatly enlivens this, perhaps indeed, somewhat stagnant body. Teenagers and XNUMX-year-olds say - "what a guy." But this is far from what convinces the Fabia RS.

Fabia RS is also basically a Fabia, which means excellent drive and chassis technology, precise design and production, perhaps slightly cheaper materials than other brands of the concern, but not at the expense of quality (but only at the expense of reputation, if that is the case). gone). ., and refinement of the product in detail.

Those that in the end, after all the hype after the purchase, really count. The Fabia can (and this RS has) four automatic sliding windows in both directions, heated exterior mirrors, both height-adjustable front seats, steering wheel controls for an audio system that reads mp3 files and has an AUX jack, and rear windows with dimming. , (good) automatic air conditioning, an impressive number of useful drawers (one of the two also cools in front of the front passenger), cruise control, rear parking assistance with additional graphics and more than excellent information system.

Among other things, it can show the current speed (despite the non-linear scale of the speedometer - we are talking about the speed of perception of information about the speed of movement, which is especially important today), and also serves a full package of data, some of which are also double.

And since this Fabia is also equipped with RS and DSG, it can also be sporty, dynamic and fast. The seats have very good lateral grip (unfortunately, they are only set quite high, which is not exactly sporty), and the driver's position is perfectly adjustable.

The TSI family engine is a prime example of a sports car that pulls sovereignly enough from low revs so that it doesn't need to be boosted to medium or high revs for normal leisurely driving. In addition, in the lower operating range, it can also be modest in terms of consumption: in the gearbox position "D" at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour, it rotates at a speed of 2.200 rpm and consumes 4 liters per 3 kilometers (read from the on-board computer).

At 130 kilometers per hour, it should rotate at 2.900 rpm and consume 6 liters, while at 3 kilometers per hour (160 rpm) it needs 3.600 liters per 8 kilometers. Anyone who has an itchy right foot will have to rely on an average consumption of up to 8 liters, otherwise it can fall below seven liters per 100 kilometers with gentle driving.

DSG is still considered the best of all similar cars in the class of cars available, but we still blame it for the slow switching between D (or N) and R positions (i.e. when moving forward and backward), which is the desire to quickly change the direction of movement is too jerky, and above all in the fact that it is impossible to move exactly millimeters (parking!).

But for the most part it turns out to be extremely quick and unnoticeable when shifting, and the shifting levers are comfortable, albeit too short for hair.

The test Fabia put too much pressure on the front wheels in fast corners (especially on wet roads), but this is partly due to the significant wear of the tires in which it was wrapped. Otherwise, thanks to the good steering wheel and pleasant steering wheel, driving the Fabia RS can be an enjoyable sporting experience, especially on a road with short corners.

However, such a sports car is also very useful: it has five doors, a third divisible rear bench (also a seat, however, the backs are slightly raised and a step is created with an increase), two hooks for bags in the trunk. and two additional boxes, which - in addition to the above - no doubt place it among the useful family cars.

Personal reservations aside, the Fabia RS has enough trump cards to spark envy. Let's finish with the price: for the entire package of premises, equipment and amenities, including DSG, 15.599 € must be deducted. Green is optional, but in this case it is just a mirror of everyone who would like to offer such a package for the same price.

evaluation

  • From a purely technical point of view, the Fabia RS is an excellent compromise between a sports car and a family car. From a financial point of view, this is a purchase that gives a lot for its money. However, from an emotional point of view, this is a pretty cool car. In general, it is very different from near and far competitors.
