How to use an edging iron?

	Whatever you are creating an edge for, the method should be the same.
Preparing the border
	If you are creating a new shape or removing more than just the very edge of a lawn, it is advisable to mark the line to be cut. For this you can use spray paint, string or a hose pipe.
Using the edging iron
	Step 1 – Place edging iron Place the edging iron along the fist section of the line you will be cutting across. The handle is held in both hands. It does not make a difference which way the foot tread faces.
	Step 2 – Push down on edging iron Place dominant foot on the corresponding foot tread and push down. Use the handles for extra force and to make sure the tool remains vertical. If the edging iron does not descend evenly, push other foot down on other foot tread as well. The tread should prevent the tool going too deep.
	Step 3 – Wiggle edging iron Remove feet from edging iron and use handles to wobble the tool slightly from side-to-side.
Step 4 – Lever edging iron If only removing a small amount of ground, the edging iron can be levered to separate the loose soil further.
Step 5 – repeat Repeat the whole process along the whole of the lawn edge.
Step 6 – remove grass and neaten up Once the edging is complete (or in small sections as you go) pull away the grass to be discarded and pat the new edge to neaten up.
Обслуживание
Wipe away any debris left on the edging iron after use. The blade should be sharpened when it shows signs of bluntness. A simple way to do this is by repeatedly pushing the tool in to a bucket of sand. For more effective results, a file can be used.
