Jay Leno meets up with John Hennessey and Post Malone to take the rapper for a spin in the Venom F5, and discuss the music sensation’s car history
You would find it hard to find anyone who loves cars as much as Jay Leno. The former chat show host and comedian is a lover of all things automotive, and of course has a huge collection of cars, many of which he and his team restore. He showcases a lot of these on his YouTube channel “Jay Leno’s Garage” but he also shows a lot of them off on his CNBC show of the same name, who regularly post clips of the show on their YouTube channel.
CNBC loves to show off teasers of the latest episode to get us excited for what is coming next, and this video on the channel is no exception. Post Malone, one of the biggest rapper stars in the world, features in this segment for the show along with Leno. In Castaic, California, the two meet up to not only discuss various things automotive, but also to have a ride in one of the best hypercars currently on the market. He has come along with John Hennessey to get a ride in the Hennessey Venom F5.
A Chat With John Hennessey And Exploration Of The Venom
Leno is very much in the company of royalty here with both Malone and the Venom. The Venom itself has a starting price of $2,100,000 and is the first bespoke hypercar to come from Hennessey Performance. Under the hood it has a 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, and it can unleash some 1,800 hp and its transmission is a seven-speed automated manual transmission. Not quite the full manual that the Koenigsegg CC850 has! Mostly of carbon fiber construction, the goal of this car is to eventually reach 311 mph.
Hennessey also developed the engine in the Venom, with the engine itself earning the nickname Fury. Malone himself loves a fast car, and had a Bugatti Chiron that he just sold because he was “absolutely terrified to drive that car”, it is after all an incredibly fast machine. Malone’s collection does not stop there, as he has some Hennessey vehicles in his collection. He has a 6×6 Velociraptor as part of his personal collection, and that is one hell of a vehicle. Malone and Leno though are here to give the Venom F5 a bit of a spin, and they are at a closed racetrack to give it full power.
Getting Out On Track In The Venom F5
Leno heads out with Malone as his passenger to get a feel of this incredible hypercar. The name F5 actually references the highest rating on the Fujita tornado scale, which can attain a speed as fast as 318 mph. The Venom will hopefully get close to that with its 311 mph top speed. Leno remarks on how the F5 feels pretty good handling wise, and that the braking is pretty powerful as well. Leno and Malone discuss the latters car history, and he reveals that his first car was a 1983 Ford Crown Victoria.
This is a car that also had Brown Valore for the interior, a classic 1980s Crown Victoria interior. The Crown Victoria was also the last car sold with a cassette player according to Leno. When it came to cars he bought when he had some success, Malone reveals that he bought a Mercedes S550, because he always wanted a nice Mercedes. He wanted to be comfortable and happy in the car, and the S550 fit the bill perfectly for that. Mercedes of course are highly renowned for that.
Malone’s Cars Get Better With More Success
Leno asks Malone what the first car was that he bought when he got even more successful. That car Malone believes was the Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster. It is a car that he absolutely loves. It is hard to get in and out of, but it is worth it, and it was probably the doors that sold the car for Malone. Remember, the guy is only 26, and he already has an Aventador in his collection, and a Hennessey 6×6 Velociraptor! Those two vehicles alone are enough to make anyone jealous.
Malone Gets Behind The Wheel Of The F5
The two pull over, and now it is Malone’s turn to get behind the wheel of the car. Leno says you really get a feel for the raw power this car has, and that is something that Malone experiences too. We also get a great V8 rumble, and the braking performance is very impressive too. The Venom F5 is surely one of the most impressive performance cars we’ve seen in recent years, and Malone gets a bit of coaching from Leno to really get the feel for the F5. The F5 truly is a fantastic vehicle, and hopefully Hennessey get it to the top speed they are aiming for.
