Audi boss questioned the future of R8 and TT

Audi's new CEO, Markus Duisman, has begun an overhaul of the company's lineup to minimize costs. To this end, he will expand on the measures introduced by his predecessor, Bram Shot, which are consolidated into a plan to transform the German manufacturer.

Duisman's actions cast doubt on the future of some Audi models equipped with internal combustion engines. At greatest risk are the sporty TTs and R8s, which have two options for the future – either they will be removed from the brand’s range or go electric, according to source Autocar.

The platform strategy is also being reviewed. Audi currently uses the Volkswagen Group's MQB architecture for its small cars, but most of the brand's models - the A6, A7, A8, Q5, Q7 and Q8 - are built on the MLB chassis. The idea is to “pair” it with the MSB platform that was developed by Porsche and used for the Panamera and Bentley Continental GT.

The two companies (Audi and Porsche) have prepared a number of joint developments in recent years, including the V6 gasoline engine. They also joined forces to create the PPE (Porsche Premium Electric) platform, which will be used first in the electric version of the second generation Porsche Macan and then in the current Audi Q5.
