Replacing the pump on the Priora 16 valves

One of the most important parts in a car is the pump. It is a pump that drives coolant through the system. If for any reason the pump stops working, then this coolant will begin to heat up, which is fraught with its further boiling.

On a 16-valve prior, the pump is considered a part that is often subject to wear.

Manufacturers recommend changing it after 55 thousand kilometers. Sometimes it happens that it lasts longer, and it is changed at about 75 thousand kilometers.

Causes of pump malfunction on Priora

The main reasons why you can determine that the pump has failed ahead of time:

  • leakage of coolant from the pump. There is a special hole under it, looking into which you can see this leak;
  • if the pump starts to work loudly and knock. It is quite difficult to diagnose that this is bearing wear, so after replacing, just twist it, you will feel how it scrolls;
  • if your pump blades have flown off, then the reason may be that the pump cover was cut off. This is a fairly common problem as the cover itself is made of plastic;
  • if suddenly your pump is jammed, it will simply stop working. If you find this obstacle in time, then you can save it.

The priors device has undergone various internal changes in an attempt to keep up with European cars. Therefore, to replace the pump, you will need several tools: a ratchet wrench for the heads, stars with hexagonal beams, keys.

How to replace a pump in a Priora VAZ

Algorithm for replacing the pump VAZ Priora 16 valves

First of all, we need to disconnect the terminal from the battery in order to carry out the entire operation without any consequences. Then we remove the crankcase protection. To do this, unscrew the bolts and hexagons. Nearby is a plastic shield of the right fender liner.

Drain the antifreeze

The next step is to drain the antifreeze from the block itself. Or unscrew the starter mounts and set it aside, then drain the antifreeze.

Remove the timing belt cover

Next up is a plastic case that comes off easily enough, just pull it up. You will now see the belt guard that rotates the crankshaft. Unscrew it with torcs by 30. But due to the fact that this place is limited in size, you will have to use a corner. The cover consists of two parts, which can be removed separately and without any difficulty.

We expose marks on the shafts

After that, we expose the piston of the first cylinder, where the TDC-1 mark will be. This is a compression stroke. Then take a closer look, you will see a mark in the form of a dot on the crankshaft. You need to combine it with the mark - the ebb, which is located near the oil pump. But don't forget about the camshaft. Align its marks with the marks that are located on the belt cover itself.

Remove the timing belt

After setting the marks, you can remove the belt. To do this, loosen the rollers and carefully remove the belt so as not to break or stretch it. The videos will also need to be removed. At this stage of the process, you will have to remove the cast iron drip, otherwise you will not be able to remove the cover. Then remove the part that was inside the plastic casing. It is held in by five bolts.

Removing and installing a new pump

And finally, we can proceed to the direct replacement of the pump. To do this, using a hexagon, unscrew the bolts and begin to gently shake the pump in different directions. When it loosens, take it off. Lubricate all parts immediately with oil. Check gaskets.

For reassembly you need care and precision. Install everything in reverse order and be sure to keep the correct ratio of marks. Then put on the belt. Then crank the crankshaft twice. If everything went well, then we put the rest of the details in place.
