Volkswagen Eos 1.4 TSI (90 kW)

Of course, the question of which gasoline engine to choose is often an unsolvable mystery. It's nice if the consumption is close to diesel, it's good to be flexible and bright enough. Volkswagen has an engine that fits the bill, and the Eos is a real treat with it in the nose.

The 1-litre turbocharged petrol engine can, on paper, run a little undernourished. Ninety kilowatts, or 4 "horsepower" is not a number to boast off the bar, but in practice it turns out that up to outright illegal speeds on the highway, this four-cylinder engine is able to do its job without any problems, even if the Eos is not included in the the number of the lightest - with a driver behind the wheel weighs more than one and a half tons.

But the engine is quite maneuverable, there is no need for constant work with the gear lever, it loves to rotate, and with moderate driving, the consumption can drop significantly below eight liters (this was a test, also because we drove many kilometers with the roof down. the track is good 9 liters per 100 km).

Otherwise, a quicker ride with this Eos is neither tiring nor repulsive. The bodywork in sharply curved corners and on very uneven roads makes it clear that the roof doesn't care about its rigidity, but there isn't even enough vibration or twist to bother.

Even more impressive aerodynamics - the wind in the cabin (on the front seats, of course) is small if you raise the side windows, and even without a windshield that can be installed above the rear seats, you can enjoy a longer track. rides. With a wind net, there is already so little wind and noise that the phrase "wind in your hair" is almost out of the question.

By the way: the Eos (with a raised roof) will also prove to be a family car (both in the back and in the luggage compartment), you just need to have good command of the space. I was less impressed by the speed of the roof movement - it is too slow, especially when it comes to closing it, because nothing noticeable happens in the first seconds of pressing the button - only raindrops will fall on the head. At the same time, Volkswagen engineers could make more efforts. .

evaluation

  • An Eos with this engine is not only the cheapest among the Eos, but also the best choice for the average convertible enthusiast. On the other hand: the same engine, only 160 "horsepower", even more fun ...
