It is more reliable in a cover: how to choose an awning for a car?

Repair, and even more so, updating the paintwork of a car is an expensive “pleasure”. Therefore, it is obvious that it is easier and cheaper for the car owner to protect the body than to constantly spend money on tuning. And an important role in the process of this protection is played by car awning. Let's talk about the key factors in choosing and using an accessory.

Why do you need an auto tent?

It is believed that this is an outdated and impractical product. Not really. If during the day the car stays in covered parking lots and garages, you can do without an awning. In other cases, the accessory is not just necessary - it must be included in the mandatory set of things for the car owner.

The task of the awning is to protect the car cover from exposure to ultraviolet radiation, precipitation and dirt. The sun's rays have the strongest effect: the paint under them fades, and the quality of the coating is sharply reduced. In addition, the auto awning protects the car from excessive overheating.

But it is important to consider that awnings are designed for operation only in the warm season. In winter, such a product will do more harm than good: for example, if you cover a car that has not cooled down in the cold, the resulting condensate will freeze the material to the body. As a result, you will have to remove the awning along with the paint.

5 criteria for choosing an awning

Many car owners choose an awning solely by size. Parameters are important, but far from the only criterion. It is worth paying attention to:

  1. Material quality. It should be tight, waterproof (but breathable at the same time).
  2. Croy. It must be free so that the process of putting on an autotent does not turn into torture.
  3. With elastic around the perimeter. Its task is to prevent the risk of slipping of the product and better protect the body from dust.
  4. With mirror pockets. They are needed to stretch the awning without risking damage to the side mirrors.
  5. With a zipper under the trunk. This function is not available in all tents (and it is not always needed). But being able to access things without removing the awning can be useful.

How do you know if a tent is of good quality?

The first criterion to evaluate the quality is the density of the material. The easiest way to identify it is by touch. You should also pay attention to the seams. If they are double, this indicates a high wear resistance of the product. One of the best are auto awnings made on the basis of nylon thread. At the same time, it is desirable that on the side in contact with the body there is a soft lining that does not allow scratches on the body.

What material is considered the best?

In fact, strength, water resistance and the right cut are more important. As for materials, here each manufacturer chooses his own options. The most common PVC awnings. They are based on polymer and reinforced mesh. This allows you to achieve two important qualities: completely retain moisture and let air through. Such awnings do not burn, retain their shape during intensive use, and withstand temperatures in the range of -50 to -50 degrees Celsius. In the modern assortment there are no less high-quality rubberized autoawnings.

The range allows you to choose a cover for any type of car: from a smart hatchback to a minivan. Therefore, to protect the "iron horse" is real. And in the conditions of the hot Ukrainian sun, this is a very important action.
