Diego Maradona's amazing cars

On October 30, the youngest god on Earth turned 60 years old. No kidding: Iglesia Maradoniana is officially registered in Argentina, the Church of Maradona, which considers Diego Armando Maradona to be a god. And already counts 130 thousand believers.

For the rest of us, Diego remains the greatest footballer we've ever seen. And also a unique character, as evidenced by his automotive history.

His first car: Porsche 924

Diego became a star as a teenager, and it wasn't until he was 19 that he got his first Porsche, a used and rather battered 924 with VW's smallest two-liter engine. Maradona sold the car in 1982 when he left for Barcelona and hardly drove it. Ten years ago, the car appeared on the site at a price of $500. It's unclear if a deal was reached, but in 000 the car was sold again, this time for a more realistic $2018.

His first new car: Fiat Europa 128 CLS

This prototype, produced by the Argentine Fiat plant, is actually the first brand new car Diego bought. The young talent took him literally weeks before moving to Barcelona and used him to go to his then friend Claudia and take him for a walk. In 1984, Maradona sold the car, which then reappeared in 2009.

In football's more solvent times, many agitators actually received direct support from clubs. Obviously being a football fan in Argentina is a bit different. This was proven by the Argentinos Juniors agitator, who, after Diego's move to the larger Boca Juniors, raised money and, as a token of gratitude for the services, presented him with a wonderful Mercedes 500 SLC with a five-liter V8 engine and 240 horsepower. The car was purchased from the Juan Manuel Fangio dealership in Buenos Aires. It was resold in 2011 for $50. Today, it will probably cost three times as much, because, in addition to being associated with Maradona, it is also quite rare - one of 000 produced.

Ford Sierra XR4

A few years ago, this car, whose documents clearly state that it belonged to Diego Maradona from 1986 to 1987, was sold at auction. In fact, the football player never drove a car - he took it from his father, Diego Sr.

Ferrari Testarossa

In 1987, Maradona was already at Naples and brought the humble southern team his first league title. In honor of this, the president of the club, Corrado Ferlaino, asked for the Ferrari Testarossa to be handed over to him. Currently, you can get whatever you want. But at the time, Enzo Ferrari, still alive, wanted the car to be sold only in red, while Diego wanted black. In the end, they managed to convince Enzo, and Ferrari made an exception for Sylvester Stallone for the second time since.

Another car was donated to Maradona in Italy. However, this time Diego had to be content with a red car. His agent, Guillermo Coppola, said that when he first got into his new acquisition, Diego wanted to listen to music. Coppola explained to him that it was a track machine without a radio, air conditioner, or other similar devices.

Renault Fuego GTA Max

Maradona showed up with this Argentine-made sports model at the darkest moment of his life - after his arrest for possession of cocaine in 1991. The 2,2-litre car had a top speed of 198 km/h. But Diego drove it very little before returning to Europe. He sold Renault in 1992, and in 2018 it was sold at auction for $23000 – more than its new price.

To return to Boca in 1995, Diego asked the bosses for two Ferraris with registration numbers AXX 608 and BWY 893. In 2005, Diego sold one car with just 37 kilometers for $ 800. It was later revealed that the buyer was a member of a well-known mafia clan, and in December 670, the car was confiscated during a police operation.

Scania 360

Maradona was quite annoyed by the journalistic attention during his last spell at Boca. So, one day he came to practice in a Scania 360 113H, registered as AZM 765. “Now it will be difficult for them to take notes,” he laughed. By the way, the truck was his own, a gift from the Lo-Jack transport company as part of a sponsorship agreement.

And another car he drove more often was a hybrid BMW i8 – though Maradona admits getting in and out of a car with the doors open is a little tricky.

Maradona also briefly stayed in Belarus, where he worked as vice-president of Dynamo Brest, overseeing the club's “strategic development”. The team was sponsored by Sohra Group, the manufacturer of the legendary BelAZ trucks. The president of the company presented Diego with another product of the plant: the Overcomer Hunta army SUV.

Chevrolet Camaro

Apparently, it is heard everywhere that Maradona loves to receive cars as a gift, because when he was invited to the Mexican "Dorados de Sinaloa", he was already waiting for a spectacular blue Camaro with a 3,6-liter V6 and 335 horsepower.

During the quarantine, Maradona showed up with this specially tuned BMW M4, to which he added police lights and sirens. Their use by private individuals is illegal, but perhaps the laws still do not apply to the living legend.
