Toyota RAV4 2.0 4WD 3V

The RAV4 remains true to itself: it is a true urban SUV with the limited (but still compelling) off-road capabilities of the RAV4, a particularly eye-pleasing appearance, and as with the previous model, you can choose between two body styles. ...

In the first edition, the shorter version was more attractive, now it seems to me that the opposite is true. The car is more mature in terms of design, so it is more refined thanks to the four side doors.

However, the shorter version is more maneuverable, more suited to city life, and in the class we call SUVs, this is an important feature. Especially if it doesn't require excessive usability denials. And with the RAV4, such a failure is still acceptable.

This means less space in the back seat, but not enough that it cannot be used. In fact, what worries me the most is that it has to climb past the stowed front seat, which can sometimes be a little tiring for less flexible people due to the higher seat position in the car and thus lower lower the edge of the door. ... Fortunately, the seat retracts enough and the door opens wide enough as well.

It's a similar story in the trunk: enough for two, enough for everyday needs, enough for short routes, just don't try to put four adults in this RAV4 with luggage for two weeks of skiing. Or at least think about a large roof rack.

Otherwise, this RAV is the same as the larger or longer version. The cockpit is one of the most pleasant, with a transparent and beautiful, sometimes sporty, spectacular instrument panel and three-spoke steering wheel.

The seat's longitudinal movement is satisfactory for taller drivers, and the lateral grip of the seats is secure enough to keep you from falling out every time you try to play sports or drive off-road.

Some switches are still inconveniently set, but the center console can be almost a model of order. Rear passengers are indeed at a slight disadvantage, but they are saved by the ability to move the bench longitudinally if there is not too much luggage behind it - this confirms the warning about ski trips described above.

The comfort in the back seat is mainly reduced due to the chassis. This is quite tricky to set up; the front suspension is still good at absorbing impacts from under the wheels, but the rear axle is not in the best way. When driving faster on a more cobbled gravel road, the rear passengers jump rather awkwardly (but not the driver in front). Well, the solution is simple: next time, leave them at home.

With its short wheelbase, permanent all-wheel drive with central viscous clutch, the RAV4 is made for exactly this kind of fun on rubble, especially as the steering wheel is responsive enough to keep the driver informed of what's going on ahead. Due to the shorter wheelbase, the rear end can fly out of direction on uneven bends (as well as on flat surfaces at higher speeds if there are rhythmically alternating lateral unevenness on the road), but with firm pressure on the accelerator pedal and some steering. work, such positions are not dangerous. Vice versa.

The engine also matches well with the chassis. It is a four-cylinder engine with Toyota VVTi (Variable Suction Valve Control) that develops 150 horsepower and 192 Nm at an apparently high 4000 rpm (maximum power reaches two thousand more). But we found it to be quite flexible already below 2000 rpm, and it also loves to spin. And since the drivetrain is also larger for the limousine than for the SUV, there is no problem with getting ahead quickly. As such, the RAV4 does well on both highway and asphalt corners as the chassis doesn't tilt too much.

So, the three-door version of the RAV4 can be easily used anywhere and every day. It does have some mistakes (when reversing, many people scold the spare tire on the tailgate, and the wiper is too small, and the tailgate itself can cause headaches in tight parking lots due to opening to the side), but we have a feeling that gentlemen from the very beginning of history will not keep him from buying.

Come to think of it, so do I. But the price would confuse me, as it is not the lowest. With a five-door version, this can still be justified, but with a three-door car, a maximum of two passengers and possibly children in the back can be used, but in this case with little luggage, no more. And I have a feeling that the sad sound of the pumper's voice was calculated for the price, not the car.

evaluation

  • Even the shorter version of the RAV4 feels good everywhere, both in the city and on muddy forest paths. Moreover, its shape also makes it clear that this is so. If only it were a little cheaper, then it would be easier for him to forgive the slightly cramped interior.
