Toyota plans to launch a competitor for Renault Captur

Toyota plans to release a new product that will take place one step lower than the C-HR. Renault Captur and Nissan Juke will become direct competitors of the car. The closest relative of the novelty from the Japanese manufacturer is Toyota Yaris.

2019 was a successful year for Renault Captur. 202 thousand cars were sold, which exceeded the previous year by 3,3%. Toyota Yaris produced very poor results: car sales decreased by 32,5%. The Japanese manufacturer does not want to put up with this state of affairs and plans to release a new product that will change the location of forces in the segment.

C-HR also showed a negative trend: it sold 8,6% less cars than in 2018. Most likely, the novelty from Toyota will cost less, which activates consumer demand.

Matt Harrison, head of the company's European division, said the new product will be based on the GA-B platform. This is one of the varieties of TNGA architecture. Presumably, the length of the car will reach 4000 mm. Toyota new model There is no information about the name of the new model. Most likely, it will be a hybrid. In this case, the car will receive a 1,5-liter gasoline engine with 115 hp. The battery will allow the car to move 80% of the time in the city exclusively using electricity. Most likely, the car will be equipped with a manual gearbox.

The presentation is expected in the second half of 2020. The car will go on sale in 2021. Regarding the market of the CIS countries, there is no information yet. It can be assumed that the car will be sold in Russia, because even designer C-HRs are imported here.
