Toyota Land Cruiser (120) 3.0 D4-D Limited LWB

Let's go back to the beginning: a comfortable car is one in which the driver (and passengers) get out even after 1000 kilometers of unfriendly (for example, winding coastal) roads without feeling all the vertebrae of the spine. To stand up for a moment, take a deep breath, stretch the previously shriveled body for so long, and then say, "OK, let's play tennis." At least the desktop.

Make no mistake: the Cruiser, as tested, is well-equipped.

It doesn't have leather on the seats, but it has (good) power steering, (well) adjustable front seats, (excellent) automatic air conditioning, (good) audio system with (six) CD changer in the unit itself (so not separately there, where in the trunk), a lightweight gear lever, and other controls that generally don't cause gray hair. Even from this side, such a cruiser is comfortable.

In terms of equipment, the test Land Cruiser was halfway between the base package and the prestigious Executive; You can recognize the latter from afar, since it does not have a spare tire on the back door.

Limited, however, seems very close to optimal, as it already offers many useful pieces of equipment: longitudinal roof racks, side steps, electrically folding exterior mirrors with heating, an information computer (trip computer and compass, barometer, altimeter and thermometer), with heated. front seats, third row of seats (since this is the 5-door version) and six airbags. Everything else that includes Executive is nice, but you can skip it.

Regardless of the length of the body, engine and equipment package, the Land Cruiser (120 series) is considered a strong, high-mounted body with fairly luxurious interior dimensions. That's why you need to climb onto the seat, and why the side stand comes in handy. Once you're in the front seat, you'll miss out on a few "quick" storage spaces, but you'll certainly get used to the huge drawer between the seats - and life gets a lot easier when it comes to the little things. in this car.

The only thing you have to get used to in a cruiser like this is the predominantly light gray interior with a bit of plastic that feels less good to the touch. The space dedicated to passengers is richly proportioned, including the size of the seats. Even the auxiliary seats in the rear, third row are not small, only the distance from the floor is not painted on the trim.

These seats can be easily folded (lifted and attached) to the wall, or they can be quickly removed and placed in a corner of the garage for more trunk space. This one easily gobbled up the entire test case, but there was still quite a lot of space left.

Almost five meters (more precisely, 15 centimeters less) Cruiser in length, also quite large in width and height (especially in appearance), is not at all as bulky as its external dimensions suggest.

It does weigh about two tons, but it will surely surprise and impress with its lightweight driving feel. The steering wheel is powered off-road, which means it's fairly easy to turn, while the huge outside mirrors and overall excellent visibility around it make it easy to drive back and forth. Only when parking you have to be a little more careful due to its length and a rather large driving circle.

Even the general welfare in such a country is very good; partly because of the space already mentioned, but also because of the very good audio system and, of course, because of the comfortable ride. Large wheels with tall tires contribute a lot to comfort, although it is true that the rigid rear axle does not perform well on short bumps; passengers in the second (and third) row will feel it.

Otherwise, the suspension is soft and well absorbs vibrations from road or off-road, which you, as the owner of such a machine, can undoubtedly rely on. The Land Cruiser has been in their blood for decades, and that tradition continues with this Cruiser. The only thing that can give you away in the field is your ignorance or the wrong tires.

For off-road or off-road use, the long-stroke four-cylinder turbodiesel is a great choice. The car rides rather rough, but quickly calms down, and its progress soon becomes invisible in the cabin; only the gear lever shakes the "diesel" at idle. When the engine speed is increased to 1500, the torque becomes extremely large.

That's up to 2500 rpm, only to be less sovereign up to 3500, and above these rpm the urge to work quickly diminishes. That doesn't say anything: even if you only drive in the specified area, you will be able to be one of the fastest on the road, and if you control the gear lever and accelerator pedal wisely, you will also be impressed with the fuel consumption.

It can also run below 10 liters of diesel fuel per 100 kilometers (which is a good result considering this weight and size), but it will not increase significantly above 12 - except, of course, in abnormal conditions; for example in the field. On average, we had 10 liters per 2 kilometers, but, believe me, we did not work with him “with gloves on”.

Good torque at low revs and a lack of enthusiasm around 4000 rpm, and also due to the inclusion of sixth gear in the transmission, which would certainly save a little fuel on the roads outside the cities. But this does not affect a very good overall impression; His Highness, Majesty, the owner of the estate and the castle, an aristocrat who usually bore noble titles, should not have smelled of them at all. Perhaps it would even be the other way around: its appearance and image would make the Land Cruiser a source of pride for him.
