Every car loses its luster over time - for some models this is a long period, for others it is shorter. Rust is the biggest enemy of any metal product.

Thanks to new technologies for painting and varnishing, this process can be slowed down. Carsweek conducted its own research to show which models (produced this century) are most resistant to this unpleasant process. We bring to your attention the TOP-10 of such cars.

10. BMW 5-Series (E60) – 2003-2010.

The lacquer finish is durable, as is the protection against corrosion. Unusually, problems with this model appear on the front. The metal of the panels themselves is not subject to corrosion, but rust appears on some joints.

9.Opel Badge – 2008-2017

The Insignia was a key model for Opel, an attempt by the company to restore faith in the quality of its vehicles lost in the previous decade. The Insignia gets a special anti-corrosion coating and the paint, although not too thick, is of good quality.

8. Toyota Camry (XV40) – 2006-2011.

The lacquer surface is quite thin. This leads to wear and tear, especially around the door handles. Overall, the protection against rust is high and the Camry retains its good looks even as it ages - with signs of wear but no rust.

6. Lexus RX – 2003-2008

The luxury Japanese brand also has a representative in this ranking, and here, like the Camry, the lacquer finish is relatively thin, but the corrosion protection is high. In general, other models of the brand produced during this period are also distinguished by high-quality anti-corrosion protection.

5. Volvo XC90 – 2002-2014

This crossover is made by the Swedes and should be used in countries where cold and humidity are common. Rust protection is high and problems only appear in some places on the bumpers of the car.

4. Mercedes S-Class (W221) – 2005-2013

As befits a flagship brand, everything here is at a high level. This applies both to the lacquer coating and to the additional anti-corrosion treatment. Corrosion can occur on arches and fenders, but is generally rare.

3. Volvo S80 – 2006-2016

Another Volvo model in this ranking, as it is also quite resistant to the vagaries of nature. Problems mainly appear on the bumper mountings, where rust can occur.

2. Audi A6 – 2004-2011

Rust problems on fenders are very rare in this vehicle. The lid and side panels are made from Audi branded aluminum alloys and are generally rust-free.

1. Porsche Cayenne - 2002-2010

The Cayenne has a fairly dense lacquer finish. The anti-corrosion layer is also applied without preservation. Rust can appear in some areas of contact with plastic body parts.
