Test Short: Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.4 TB 170 Sportiva QV

One is a dream for just over 50 thousand euros, as much as they want for a sporty 4C, and the other is 22.320 euros for a much more useful and not at all slow (at least in terms of traffic density on our road) Juliet. The inscription Sportiva Quadrifoglio Verde, of course, also says a lot to those who are not familiar with the history of Alpha: a four-leaf clover has always been considered lucky. Especially on Alpha.

The Giulietta is probably the least alpha when it comes to driving feel, and yet the best for most. We don't blame her for speaking Italian: isn't it better to read on water and gas meters than on water and fuel meters? Of course, tradition needs to be maintained, and Alpha has so much to say that even a grandmother (yes, rarely a grandfather) would rather fall asleep during the evening story than tell the story to the end. Of course, the economy and established rules (history!) Also bring some disadvantages, such as the steering wheel, which cannot move longitudinally, or the seats, which could have been even sportier, even if the driver's buttocks were finally set properly low. Despite the use of aluminum, center consoles have been around for years, so at the Frankfurt Motor Show they have already unveiled a slightly updated successor that will, among other things, have a larger touchscreen.

A relatively small displacement engine won't make you thirsty across the sea; even thanks to the "short" six-speed gearbox, he loves to spin and shows that there is no joke with him. Of course, shorter gear ratios also mean more noise on the highway, when at 130 km / h the engine speed is already 3.000 on the meter, which is otherwise transparent. We already know the lower selector: d for sporty driving, n for normal and a for “all weather” or bad weather.

The selector determines the operation of the engine electronics, the sensitivity of the accelerator pedal, the responsiveness of the steering system and the operation of the electronics for greater safety (ASR traction control system and VDC stability). The response between the selected programs is obvious, as the engine immediately jumps when switching from nvd (dynamic), as if listening to the heart of its driver. On the chassis, we have nothing to complain about: in normal driving it is a little stiffer, but not uncomfortable, and in sharper driving, it makes sure that the front drive wheels follow the wishes of the driver, and the rear wheels follow the front ones. We did not find any problems with the fast rear end even with a sharp change of direction, you have to wait with the gas until the turn is over, otherwise you will have to “add” the steering wheel.

The regular lap showed that this bouncy Giulietta can also be relatively fuel efficient, although in the test we used an average of 11,1 liters per 100 kilometers. No, we did not go to the race track or run off-road, we just dynamically chased traffic. Too much? Of course, although those 125 kilowatts must be fed. However, if we ignore the consumption (hmm, is this even important at such a price and stability, especially with such a sports model?), Then there is nothing to fear: the Giulietta did not lose anything even with a decrease in size or less forced recharging. engine. Previously acquired.

  • The engine is good if you understand that jumping also means a lot of fuel consumption. But you don't expect anything other than the Quadrifoglio Verde version ...
