Test: Škoda Citigo 1.0 55 kW 3v Elegance

Geneticists would say it's a clone, midwives would say it's an identical twin, computer scientists would say copy-paste, scribes would say it's a photocopy, and there's another term. This applies to design, engineering, appearance, manufacturing and all other processes not specified before new vehicles are delivered to showrooms. From there they do marketing and sales - and these two concepts are completely different for Škoda Citigo than for Volkswagen up!

Citigo Basically, this is a cute toddler with simple yet recognizable movements, so at least you can look behind him and think, which is definitely a good first step. Due to its small size, Citigo is primarily focused on cities and at least more developed locations, and ranks second in the family when it comes to typical middle-aged shoppers. But here their marketers mention two other populations: adolescents (during their studies) who are still financially dependent on their parents, which means that in many ways parents still decide to buy, and retirees who no longer need a bigger car.

IN many respects Citigo he really knows how to satisfy all of the above. The front seats, for example, are very spacious, especially for the class to which it belongs. The seats have a fully adult long section of the seat, they tend to be as hard as the group, the seats are not fatiguing, both are height adjustable and have moderate lateral grip, and two medium sized adults do not press with their elbows and shoulders. , which means that they are ordinary too. the front width is sufficient. Their appearance is even a bit sporty with built-in pillows, but these pillows are too far forward to lean comfortably on because they push the head forward too much.

The steering wheel is also very good: thick, well-controlled and relatively small in diameter, but in the lower position it completely covers the sensors, only sections from zero to 20 and from 180 to 200 kilometers per hour are visible. More about pressure gauges: all analogs are good, they look beautiful and transparent minimalist, but the RPM sensor is very small and therefore does not give accurate readings. But in a car like the Citigo, it doesn't bother me. Not many people will be bothered by the fact that there are no center air gaps on the dashboard like we are used to with most cars. The slot is at the top of the dashboard and the air conditioning is very good too. When cooling down on hot days, keep in mind that a large air conditioner cannot be attached to a small motor.

Even in Quote I must say that their Move & Fun is a good idea. Recognizable by its medium-sized screen protruding from the center of the dashboard, this multifunctional device combines navigation, on-board computer and warning systems to make it immediately clear that this is not just an accessory you can buy from Interspar, but a device that connects easily. to the vehicle and which can also be pulled out for easy outdoor use. Although the Citigo is small in size, it can be useful even when storing small items out of pockets or purses, as it has enough drawers and space for small items. They are few, but definitely enough. We are outraged only by the drawers in the door, which are quite large, but the half-liter bottle falls off all the time, because they are too wide.

For young people! None of the above will bother them, including Bluetooth connectivity and good audio system sound, but they will miss an SD card slot as the VAG touches all four USB ports. However, it also turns out that the antenna for the radio is rather weak, as the local stations are relatively poor at hunting.

Pensioners! If they do not buy the five-door version, they will have to pay extra for the rear seat assist system, as the seat movement in the Citigo test was particularly inconvenient: the lever for folding the backrest and moving the seat forward is located at the bottom of the seat, it has to be bent every time, movement the seat is quite rigid, the seat loves to lean back and does not remember the set position. They will also not like the information: the small monochrome information display on the sensors is too dark, the virtual keys of the Move & Fun system are very small, the screen sensitivity is very low (too much attention while driving!) And a small, almost miniature clock, data on the same screen and outdoor temperature.

Based on the theoretical capabilities of the engine (which was more powerful than both) and the weight of the car, the Citigo lives surprisingly in the city, but, above all, it is easy to drive, and therefore not tiring. including transmission handling. The engine is also moderately stable and spins up to a top speed of 6.600 rpm. All of the above is the cause of two extremes. First, if the driver is careful with the accelerator pedal, in real conditions he can achieve an average consumption of 5 liters per 100 kilometers. And secondly, if the driver is nervous between traffic lights and impatient on the roads outside the city, in real conditions such a Citigo can consume 10 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers, since for a slightly higher speed it has to be driven almost damp. .

Moderates, who are also typical Citigo buyers, will be pleased with the following power consumption figures displayed by the on-board computer in fifth gear: at 50 km / h 2,3, 100 4, 130 5,1 and 160 7,7 liters per 100 km. Based on this, it becomes clear that you can really drive the Citigo economically. Of course, also safe, since in addition to all the NCAP stars, it also has Active Emergency Braking, which is a novelty in this class.

So. Due to most of what is found and written above, it becomes Citigo from a typical special case. But it's also a good example where we can learn not to think about it too much. So, once again: Citigo is Skoda and is sold in Skoda salons.

Overall rating (319/420)

  • Citigo, actually a complete clone of Up!, Of course inherits the same properties. The main difference is only in the icon and the approach to clients. Just like Up! it still has room to maneuver by corporate standards, and overall the car is not bad.

  • Exterior (13/15)

Nice baby, but supposedly at least in front.

  • Interior (83/140)

For example, in many ways, but also with flaws, especially - surprisingly - in ergonomics.

  • Engine, transmission (50

    / 40)

Decent ride mechanics, great for both city and moderate driving, the rest of the engine can be loud and gluttonous.

  • Driving performance (60

    / 95)

Excellent for the purpose of the car, but a little worse when driving.

  • Performance (25/35)

Alive in the city, moreover, relatively mobile in relation to the engine.

  • Security (39/45)

Advanced safety package, but the automatic braking system gets in the way.

  • Economy (49/50)

Economical for moderate driving and the whole package is reasonably priced.
