Test: Dacia Lodgy 1.5 dCi (79 kW), laureate (7 seats)

If we publish data on new competitors in our comparison tests, we must go to Lodgy to reach out to used car dealerships. What could be unfair in relation to the new model from the Romanian Dacia, in which at least part of the leadership speaks French; Does the new BMW M5 have no rivals compared to the used M5, or does the new Berlingo in the neighboring yard have no serious competitors in the form of its predecessor, which is several years old? Why is Loggia an exception?

Of course, the answer is in the palm of your hand: each successor is better, more powerful and more environmentally friendly, while Lodgy relies mainly on a lower retail price. This is the correct answer these days, so Renault (which owns Dacia) can only bow deeply to its sensible decision to revive a low-cost brand.

However, whether the Renault Scenic a few years ago would be a better choice than the new Dacia Lodgy is up to everyone. In the following text, we hope to help you with this dilemma.

The Dacia Lodgy is being built in a new Moroccan plant, where the latest Kangoo axle is added to the already famous Logan platform, all packed into a large body. There is really a lot of space, so with a length of 4,5 meters, you can place as many as seven seats.

Although they are not individual, since we had a second and third stand in the test machine, it also impresses with its flexibility. With seven seats, the luggage compartment volume is only 207 dm3, and then the rear bench can be folded, folded with the seat (and attached to another bench) or simply removed. If we put the rear seats in the garage or apartment, and this is a real cat's cough compared to the Peugeot Expert Tepee, since they are unreasonably lighter, we get as much as 827 dm3, and with the bench folded in the second row, the same as 2.617 dm3.

Gentlemen, this is already a decent courier! From my own experience, when the third row was removed, I stuck the second child seat into the Isofix mounts right in the middle of the middle bench, turned over a third of the bench and took a family of four and two bicycles. for service. Well, only women's and children's bikes landed at the service station, and this time we did not serve the family. A joke, a joke.

However, we did not ridicule the sixth and seventh places: believe me, with my 180 centimeters, I can easily survive an even longer trip, if you do not take into account that due to the elevation you can scratch my nose with my knee. Well done, Dacia.

We can also get our thumb up in the air thanks to the engine and transmission. We expected a quiet ride from a 1,5-liter turbodiesel, but got an economical one, accelerating it at ideal revs.

With short calculated gear ratios, it quickly shows power (torque) already at 1.750 rpm and I believe it will be a chunk even for a fully loaded car. Provided, of course, that you don't miss a full breath of the turbocharger, otherwise the 1,5-liter volume will soon give up. Some fatigue was already showing in the synchronous second gear, so we were a little more careful using this one and we were absolutely delighted with the fuel consumption, which was between 6,6 and 7,1 liters. For such a large car, this figure is the right balm for the wallet.

Then we come to errors or shortcomings, of which there are many. The first and most alarming is the low torsional strength of the case. We have not come across such a creaking body, which was once (!!) synonymous with convertibles (when you remove a “flat” roof, one of the load-bearing or connecting parts of the car).

The body strains due to twisting, but if you drive to curb height on one tire, you even feel how some doors are harder to close. The second is the feeling that they really saved up at every step.

Daytime running lights illuminate only the front of the car, which is sufficient by law, but then scattered drivers drive through tunnels in the rear without lighting, there is no outside temperature, access to the fuel tank is possible only with a key, the tailgate has an invisible and less convenient button , the rear side doors are not sliding, but classic, the windows on the tailgate do not open separately, the rear seats do not move longitudinally, the front side windows do not close or open when the button is pressed briefly, the switch, but the command must be held to the end, the beep is only in the left lever steering wheel, etc.

While driving, we missed the cruise control, which I personally would have preferred to the speed limiter (only with better equipment), the parking sensors are optional equipment, and only in the rear, and, above all, we could have installed better tires. I don't mind that the Lodgy only gets 15-inch 185/65 wheels, as they are cheaper than 16- or 17-inch wheels, and plastic covers instead of ambitious aluminum rims didn't bother us.

A minus could be put only on the Barum Brillantis tires, which did not show themselves even when braking on a dry road, and even more so on a wet road. As long as I was not sliding down the highway at full throttle in second gear, driving in the lane all the time, and the ESP stabilization system did not calm down only in the lane in third gear, I was still brave, and nothing more.

So, in the company Renault-Nissan Slovenija, which is the representatives of the Dacia brand in our country, at the domestic press conference at the presentation of this car, they promised to advertise only the version with ESP, but at the express request of the customer. could also provide the (cheaper) Dacio Lodgy without this currently indispensable safety device in our opinion.

In the Auto store they think that Dacia Lodgy should not be offered without a serial ESP at all! In addition, the four airbags, two front and two side airbags for head and torso protection, are really the minimum of passive safety, and I would put on your soul a little thought about what happens to your children in a side impact. You could survive, but what about them?

Lodgy is the first Dacia company to offer a factory installed Media NAV device. You control radio, navigation and hands-free wireless communications via a seven-inch touchscreen.

Keys and interfaces are also great for older people as they are large and easy to use, and the USB port is likely to come in handy for younger ones. The air conditioner is manual and, at least during the test, it did its job well, and the storage boxes are really huge. The planners gave them 20,5 to 30 liters (depending on equipment), so the risk of forgetting where to put something is more than having nothing to clean up.

Like any used car, the new Dacia Lodgy has advantages and disadvantages, but at least you know it's not the first owner to buy a cat in a bag. We've all heard that a huge number of used cars in Slovenia have “spun” kilometers, haven't we? And here we are again faced with the original dilemma: take a chance and buy (maybe better?) A used car or play on a more reliable, but less prestigious map called Dacia Lodgy?

Overall rating (293/420)

  • The world is designed in such a way that less money also means less ... you know, music. We didn’t blame the technician for anything other than the lower torsional strength of the case, and there were quite a few comments about safety and hardware. What to choose, new or used? Few of us would prefer to bet on a used one, but for some, lower maintenance and first ownership costs are more important. Another fact in favor of Lodgy: all accessories are relatively cheap!

  • Exterior (6/15)

Of course, it is not the most beautiful and not the best, but it still looks not so bad on the road.

  • Interior (98/140)

You will not be disappointed with the spaciousness of the passenger compartment and trunk, and there is less joy in materials and equipment. Soundproofing effectively limits wind gusts and engine noise.

  • Engine, transmission (46

    / 40)

There are also reserves in the chassis and steering system; in the first for comfort, and in the second for communication.

  • Driving performance (50

    / 95)

The road position would certainly have been better with the more powerful tires, so the braking feel is not the best. Directional stability deteriorates due to high sidewalls.

  • Performance (21/35)

Sufficient for average consumption, but not for demanding drivers.

  • Security (25/45)

Only four airbags and optional ESP, the braking distance is worse.

  • Economy (47/50)

Favorable fuel consumption and price, worse warranty conditions (only six years for rust).
