Test: Chevrolet Cruze 2.0 VCDi (110 kW) LT

It must be admitted that the boot is not as flexible as the five-door versions of the car (despite the possibility of lowering the rear seat), but with its 450 liters, it is large enough for both everyday and family vacation use.

Otherwise, the same applies to the entire interior of the car: two adults will fit comfortably in the front (longitudinal and vertical displacement of the driver's seat), and two (even if they are no longer the smallest) children in the back.

Need more? You can get more, but not for this price. The Cruze is still a good buy even in this best motorized and best equipped version. For just under 20, in addition to a 150 horsepower diesel engine (more on this below), you also get a rich security system (ESP, six airbags, rain sensor, front fog lights, audio controls and cruise control on the car) ... steering wheel) and other equipment.

There is a surcharge (say) for navigation and seat heating, while automatic air conditioning, lightweight 17-inch wheels, cruise control, rear parking sensors and a CD changer are already standard on the LT equipment kit.

The blue illumination of instruments and the dashboard may confuse someone, but, at least in our country, the prevailing opinion is that it is beautiful, the speedometer is linear and therefore not transparent enough at city speeds, and the on-board computer screen and the audio system or air conditioning are quite transparent. even when the sun is shining.

There is nothing new under the hood: a VCDI-branded four-cylinder turbo diesel that still produces 110 kilowatts or 150 "horsepower" and still suffers from asthma at lower revs. In the city, this can also be annoying (including due to the rather long first gear of only a five-speed manual transmission), and the engine really only breathes above the number of 2.000.

Therefore, the shift lever has to be used more often than usual, and therefore the test consumption was slightly higher than it might otherwise be at just over seven liters. However, you can easily pay extra for a six-speed automatic and enjoy.

And this is actually the only additional fee required in Cruz.

evaluation

  • The Cruze is affordable, but it's a shame that Chevrolet doesn't offer buyers a six-speed transmission that masks engine anemia at its lowest revs.

We praise and reproach

only five-speed gearbox

insufficiently flexible motor at 2.000 rpm
