SsangYong Tivoli comes to Europe with Indian engines

Arsenal will include gas turbine engines developed by Mahindra

The SsangYong Tivoli crossover will appear on the European market in June in an updated form. Most interestingly, its arsenal will include gasoline turbo engines recently developed by the Indian company Mahindra (the parent company for the SsangYong brand). Thus, the 1,2 TGDi turbo engine (128 hp, 230 Nm) will become the base, which will work in combination with only a six-speed manual transmission. It was originally designed to replace the 1.2 MPFI engine (110 hp, 200 Nm), which is mounted on the XUV 300 (Tivoli clone).

During a repair in Korea a year ago, Tivol replaced the grille, as well as bumpers, lighting and even the fifth door. Inside, the entire front panel was redone, a digital instrument panel appeared.

1.2 The TGDi turbo engine is part of the new mStallion family that Mahindra unveiled in February at the Auto Expo in New Delhi. The other two engines have four cylinders each: 1,5 TGDi (163 hp, 280 Nm), 2,0 TGDi (190 hp, 380 Nm). The three-cylinder is due for the Ford EcoSport in 2021.

This is the interior of a refurbished Tivoli for the UK market. The diagonal of the central display is seven inches, and the virtual instrument panel is 10,25. Basic equipment has six airbags and air conditioning, and a seventh airbag and dual-zone climate control are installed at an additional cost.

The second petrol engine for Tivoli in Europe will be a 1,5 TGDi (163 hp, 280 Nm) turbocharged four-cylinder engine from the same Mahindra mStallion series. And the top modification will have a powerful 1.6 turbodiesel (136 hp, 324 Nm). Both four-cylinder engines work together with an Aisin manual or six-speed automatic transmission and are available in the new Korando, among others. So far, only prices in the UK are known. The EX will cost £13 (€995), Ventura £15 (€700) and Ultimate £16 (€995). Engines 19 and 000 are only available in the latter.
