Skoda Fabia 1.6 16V Sport

In fact, the beginning of the story of the new Fabia is rather unfair. The Czech woman had a hard time making it to the Slovenian market, so she should have attracted attention and interest, but in our test no one sniffed her. There was no neighbor who would ask how things are with the new Fabia, what she has and what she doesn't.

Thus, the respondents to our more forced questions were most outraged by the form. The front end is like the Roomster, without anything special on the side, at the back. ... ah, that ass. Could you even call him an ass? Empty, leave indifferent, do not evoke emotions. Nothing. A bit disappointing. But this is only the design of the Fabia, which clearly does not want to upset traditional buyers and does not interfere too much with their calm views of cars. Not as exciting as Peugeot 207, Fiat Grande Punto, cute like Toyota Yaris, Opel Corsa, lively like Suzuki Swift. ...

The image is much more serious, although the black pillars, together with the flat roof, want to bring a touch of sportiness. In vain they ignore Fabia at first. But that's just because of two things: the shape and the icon. Still a pity, still a pity, although (and) the owners of bald horses with more sonorous names should (also) take a different look at this new creation from Mlad Boleslav. For many, such a Fabia is too tough a nut to crack.

The aforementioned nut "hardens" already inside, where the accusation that Fabia could be a little bolder, less sleepy and boring also falls. But, apparently, such a dashboard, measured in German, precisely folded to the millimeters, with logically located buttons and switches, also has its own purpose. Do not worry. Thus, the feeling inside is satisfactory, since there are quite a lot of useful boxes, for example, two in front of the passenger. The bottom one is also cooling, and in both cases we were a little worried that neither of them had an A4 sheet of paper. Wrinkled or folded easily. ...

In the Fabia test, sheet storage problems were reduced by additional storage boxes under the front seats. The choice of materials in the interior is surprising, since it is not only hard plastic, like most competitors, but at least a third of the fittings are also pleasant to the touch, and not just to the eye. If only there were a few more silver inserts to break the gray one. The solution is offered in salons, where you can also choose a two-tone combination of interiors.

The test Fabia had automatic air conditioning and CD radio, electrically adjustable front side windows and rear-view mirrors. With moderate desires, I’m unlikely to want anything more. Inside, we also praise a well-functioning (even quiet) air conditioning, a steering wheel with good traction and good feedback, a useful gear lever that does not know errors and does not resist, an informative on-board computer. And also the ergonomics of the front seats, which fit well to the body (sports equipment), like from a textbook.

Inside, the spaciousness in the backseat is surprising, where two passengers can ride like a king for the Fabia class, and with a little more tolerance, three can be solid. There is plenty of head and leg room here. The size of the luggage compartment pleases. The 300-liter "storage" is already available in the basic version; another 40 liters more, and the Fabia with this volume will be in the highest class. The Fabia is a class leader in boot size, but its flexibility is a bit disappointing.

Folding the rear bench seat (divisible into three parts) requires several movements - first you need to remove the head restraints, then remove part of the seat, and then lower the backrest. A little time and as a result it is not quite the bottom of the expandable trunk. Well, this podium is really not a nightmare.

While the Fabia is not a car to fall in love with or look at from a balcony, it also has Mini-like interior elements. Flat roof and short, steep and curved windshield around the edges. If this one was closer, you would think you are in a Mini.

The new Fabia platform is connected to the previous generation of Czech women, perhaps more than you think. MacPherson struts at the front, multi-rail at the back. It rides reliably, with 16-inch Atria wheels (surcharge) a little stiffer than you'd expect, but still comfortable. Feels like during the moves, she will be ranked in the upper half of her class, among the best. The steering mechanism is quite accurate, as is the steering itself.

The test Fabia was equipped with a 1-liter gasoline engine with 6 "horsepower". The engine is an old friend of the VAG concern, Fabio's proven and recommended choice. There is enough power, but more importantly, the engine loves to spin and is listened to from low revs. Without hesitation, he spins on the red box in every gear. I love the combination of this engine with the five-speed manual transmission, which has well-timed gear ratios for city and suburban use.

On the highway at 130 kilometers per hour, the tachometer reaches almost 4.000, and the engine is already quite loud. If there was a sixth gear in addition to fourth, this Škoda could be more economical on long trips. During the test, we tested the Fabio 1.6 16V in both more economical and more dynamic driving modes. The first average fuel consumption was only 6 liters of gasoline per 7 kilometers, which, of course, is a favorable result. During acceleration - the engine does not resist - the flow rate exceeded 100 liters per 9 km. If you drive such a Fabia at a moderate speed, the engine will reward you with good fuel economy.

Price. A test model Fabia without additional equipment costs a good 13 thousand euros. Many passenger car sheets are cheaper, but there are many that require even more glitter for similar equipment. We cannot argue that the Fabia is cheap in the new era, but we still stick to the fact that for the money they ask Škoda, you get a big and, above all, a good car.

The Sport equipment, which is an upgrade to the Classic and Ambient, offers many benefits. ABS, daytime running lights, Isofix, power steering, front and side airbags, curtain airbags, remote central locking, power windows, electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, Climatronic air conditioning, front fog lights, height and depth adjustable steering wheel , on-board computer, height-adjustable driver's seat, 15-inch alloy wheels, car radio with CD and MP3 player, leather handbrake lever and tinted windows.

There is an additional charge for the ESP and ASR stabilization system, due to which the drive wheels do not idle.

The new Fabia is nothing more than spaciousness, but when we draw the line, it's everywhere at the top. If Škoda also knows how to pamper customers with durability and after-sales service, those customers whose car shapes and badges do not get their pulse on their feet will find it difficult to think of a product of the same size from one of the competing brands after purchase. new fabia.

Overall rating (320/420)

  • If there was some other (German) badge on the nose, we would have talked about this car behind the counter in a different way, so at the beginning of the sale, the restrained form did not stand out, although given that the Fabia was offered in this form of the package, it deserves more attention. A good choice.

  • Exterior (12/15)

The front (also) looks like Rumster, the back (also) is more restrained. Good workmanship.

  • Interior (116/140)

High-quality materials, a spacious interior, a trunk large enough for this class, which could still be more flexible.

  • Engine, transmission (32

    / 40)

The engine is suitable for a real Czech. Responsive, loves to spin and easily keeps up with the rest of the traffic. Praise the gearbox too.

  • Driving performance (80

    / 95)

With such tires and rims, it is more difficult, which means with a reliable position on the asphalt.

  • Performance (24/35)

The tested engine works great in the city, easily copes with the tracks, as well as at home on the highway.

  • Security (24/45)

There is no ESP, but there are a bunch of airbags, a Euro NCAP accident has not been announced yet.

  • Economy

With moderate driving, fuel consumption is favorable, the warranty is also good, and at the base price, the Škoda is no longer the best choice.
