Composition and principle of action
Silicones are organosilicon compounds containing oxygen. Depending on the type of organic group, these substances have different properties.
The composition of silicone lubricants for rubber seals most often includes one of three (or several) substances: silicone fluids (oils), elastomers or resins.
The principle of operation of silicone smear is quite simple. After application, a lubricant with good adhesion potential covers the treated surface. It does not freeze at low temperatures and does not evaporate when heated. Due to its hydrophobic properties, the lubricant repels water well, which allows the two contact surfaces not to freeze.
According to the type of packaging and method of application, all silicone lubricants are divided into four main groups:
- aerosol cans;
- mechanical spray bottles;
- containers with foam applicator;
- vials with roller applicator.
The most widespread today is the aerosol form of packaging.

Consider several silicone lubricants that are quite widespread in Russia.
- Hi-Gear HG. Silicone multifunctional grease based on silicone oil. It is used in a wide range of applications, including the processing of rubber seals. Produced in aerosol cans with a volume of 284 gr. It costs around 400 rubles per bottle. It has proven itself as an effective tool to combat the freezing of door seals in the winter.
- Liqui Moly Pro-Line Silicon Spray. Polycomponent silicone grease. Formulated with a mixture of various silicones and volatile gases. Produced in a convenient 400 ml bottle with a movable extension tube. Approximate price - 500 rubles per bottle. Collected a lot of positive feedback from car owners.
- Runway NEVER. Relatively simple, but also quite reliable lubricant for protection against freezing of rubber products. Made with silicone fluid. Sold in small bottles with a roll-on applicator with a volume of 50 ml. Price - 120-130 rubles.
- Runway 6085. A more convenient version of silicone grease from this manufacturer for processing volumetric surfaces. The base is silicone resin. Runway 6085 grease has positive reviews online from car owners. Sold in aerosol cans with a capacity of 400 ml. The price starts from 260 rubles.
- AutoDoc. Silicone resin based lubricant. Release form - 150 ml aerosol can. It costs about 250 rubles. According to motorists, this version of silicone grease subjectively creates a thicker layer. On the one hand, thick grease gives additional confidence that the rubber bands will not freeze to the doors even in severe frosts. On the other hand, silicone-shiny seals not only look unaesthetic, but can also stain clothes if they are carelessly getting on and off.
- Silicone lubricant Sonax. Positions itself as a multifunctional professional team. For a half-liter aerosol can, you will have to pay about 650 rubles. In addition to processing rubber seals, it is also used for the preservation of plastic, metal, rubber and wood products, the processing of ignition coils and high-voltage wires, and also as a polish. Operates in a wide temperature range: from -30 to +200 °C. The only drawback is the high price.
All of these products have proven effective when used as a water-repellent lubricant for the treatment of rubber car door seals.
