Renault Scenic dCi 130 Dynamic

Hair like the Scenic, only with a slightly smaller can of beer in the engine, we already drove this winter. And with that, I also made a slightly longer trip to the Austrian ski resort with two more passengers and quite a lot of luggage. There was enough power to drive moderately fast, but the memory of the dead zone at the lowest revs is still alive. Just above idle, the 1-liter dCi in a car the size of a Megan-based SUV turns out to be too weak. When starting off, a little more speed is required, as well as when overtaking, especially on the track or when driving uphill.

On paper, there isn't much difference between a 1 and 5-litre turbodiesel, and on the road it's obvious. No more explanation needed: it's easier to move off, overtaking is less stressful for the driver and passengers. Fuel consumption is very constant, not paying much attention to the weight of the driver's right leg - it was about seven and a half liters. On the highway, the engine is exemplary quiet, spinning at just 1 rpm at a speed of 9 kilometers per hour. The transmission is smooth and smooth in all seven gears (including reverse).

In general, the car is still very (French) soft: when I got into it directly from the Opel Meriva, I was driving very jerky due to the soft clutch pedal, and instead of turning on the first speed of the wipers due to light dew, I “ banged "the right steering wheel to the end position. It's funny, but in practice, the properties of cars are obvious to well-trained owners, or they do not notice them at all.

The steering wheel is also extremely soft, especially in the city, which will be appreciated by moms, but they will be even more impressed by the spaciousness of the trunk, the flexibility of the rear seats, tables and double pockets on the backrests. front seats, lots of (hidden) drawers and a parking camera that needs to be turned on ten seconds after starting the engine. They are annoyingly long if you can no longer drive sideways out of a crowded parking lot without a camera, but after moving forward it is recommended to stay on them for a few seconds, which will come in handy when maneuvering in tight parking lots.

In addition, it takes too much time to switch between the separate displays on the trip computer, which show the average and current consumption, flight range, mileage and fuel consumption in liters for the last trip, average speed and kilometers until the next service. Functions (which is commendable) move in two directions, but the data "moves" up and down, which takes longer than if just click-click-click toggle instantaneously. Worrying, especially until the driver remembers how the individual displays follow one another.

The fully digital sensors get used to quickly, they are clearly visible even in sunny weather, and there is a possibility that you will not see the current speed and amount of fuel when the steering wheel is in the uppermost position.

Let's once again praise the performance of Renault's smart card, which once you get used to it, you won't want to exchange for any money (or 570 euros, as much as it costs in a package with electrically adjustable exterior mirrors). . You will especially appreciate this for those ladies and gentlemen who like to get all their bags out of the car in one "detour" as there is no need to lock the car with a key. Only the position of the vertical slot for the card in the middle part was unsuccessfully chosen - what if the child stuffs a coin there?

Since the Scenic of the first generation (1998, if I'm not mistaken) is also very well preserved in the immediate family circle, I can say from my own experience that the driving performance of the new light year is better: the body tilts less in corners There is less understeer in corners too quickly. but on the other hand, in spite of the better position on the road, the comfort does not suffer. What have we missed? Three flashing direction indicators with a light touch on the lever on the steering wheel and easier closing of the boot lid.

evaluation

  • It's hard not to notice the Scenic family of single-seat cars, but if you already need a diesel, we highly recommend a more powerful version - exactly the same as the test one. However, a weaker engine is cheaper to buy and insure.
