The efforts of the Renault-Nissan alliance to keep one of its most important products in the Old Continent in shape are impressive - the model has gradually received a wide range of options, including elegant yet highly functional sedans and station wagons.

Modern turbine unit

Now the latest highlight of the Megane product portfolio is the launch of a new generation of 1,3-liter turbocharged petrol engines equipped with direct injection and turbocharger.

Two modifications of the new unit are a joint development of Renault-Nissan and Daimler and will be used in many models of both concerns. The TCe petrol engine boasts a range of high-tech solutions, including Mirror Bore Coating plasma coated cylinders.

This technology is also used in the Nissan GT-R engine to improve energy efficiency by reducing friction and optimizing thermal conductivity. The system of direct fuel injection into the cylinders, in turn, already operates at a pressure increased to 250 bar. The goals of the new drive are well known and easily explained according to the current situation in the industry - to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

The 1,3-liter TCe engine is manufactured in two factories of the Franco-Japanese alliance: in Valladolid, Spain, and Sunderland, UK, by Nissan Motor United Kingdom (NMUK). It will also be manufactured at Daimler factories in Koeled, Germany, and in China by Dongfeng Renault Automotive Company (DRAC) and Beijing Benz Automotive Company, Ltd (BBAC).

In real-world conditions, the engine really impresses with its fuel economy potential as well as quite solid thrust with over 2000 rpm torque.

Still impressive design

Otherwise, the Megane is still sympathetic for its sleek and distinctive appearance - especially when viewed from behind. The hatchback has one of the most elegant designs in the compact segment.

The large touchscreen of the center console leaves a rather pleasant impression, and the fact that the infotainment system menus are fully translated into several languages is once again commendable.

On the road, the Megane TCe 115 presents more of a comfortable than sporty character, but it fits perfectly with the balanced and even temperament of the Frenchman. The level of prices for the model in our country continues to remain significant - there is no doubt that the new engines will only further strengthen the position of the model in the domestic market.
