Renault Master 2.5 dCi 120 – Price: + RUB XNUMX

Looking at the new Master, you will notice that there are no major changes to it; a slightly refined and therefore more modern house design-style mask as in the passenger car program, minor changes to the headlights and a discreetly embellished rear end are all that are really noticeable. This means only one thing: there was no particular need for changes, because the previous model already had an agreed upon form. Engineers paid much more attention to ecology and power plants.

Tale Master is powered by a 2-liter turbo diesel engine with 5 "horsepower" and 120 Nm of torque in the bow, which it reaches at just 300 rpm. On the road, this means that it accelerates with maximum ease completely in the rhythm of rapidly changing traffic.

We really can't blame him for his lack of liveliness. In our measurements, we measured its acceleration to 100 kilometers per hour in just 16 seconds, which is pretty close to mid-range passenger cars and inflatable passenger cars. Maybe it's just an advantage for a second or two. However, we must not forget that the Master van is large and rather square in shape. With a total carrying capacity of up to 3 tons, such a Master is already a semi-truck, on which you can load up to one and a half tons. Well, to be precise, with 5 pounds of passengers and their cargo.

There is no lack of space in it, since its internal volume is 2 m41, and the height from floor to ceiling is "standing" for the average Slovenian. Since its height is 3 meters, there is no need to talk about the feeling of tightness.

We have thoroughly tested the Mastra both in the city and on the long trip to Milan and back. In the crowd, that is, in the city, good visibility to the front and back should be praised, which is mainly due to the large electrically adjustable mirrors. Since the driver sees the edges of the van very well, parking is not a problem as long as there is enough room to fit a van almost five meters long. We were also impressed with how wide the sliding doors open.

So getting in and out is quick and easy, and access to the back bench also requires no acrobatic skills. Most of all we were concerned about the inconvenience of the seats. At short distances, this does not bother, but after an hour and a half of driving, passengers still want to pamper themselves.

The backs could have been flatter, but we also wanted more from the seat part itself (too hard padding and poor side grip). The only exception is the driver's seat, which is solved by the fact that it is sufficiently adjustable in height, tilt and depth. Those who were taller also complained that there was not enough knee room in the back row of seats. This concludes our list of comments.

It is commendable at Renault that they care about safety, even when it comes to these vans. Each seat is equipped with a three-point harness and two front airbags keep the driver and front passenger safe in the event of an accident. Considering the fact that ABS and emergency braking are standard and the Master is equipped with four disc brakes, we really have nothing to complain about from a safety standpoint.

He also very pleasantly surprised us when we turned the steering wheel in the high driver's seat. The feeling when you are sitting high and the cars are clearly spaced under you is good, like a truck. The steering wheel is installed softly enough, it rotates easily and undemandingly. The ergonomically positioned gear lever of the well-designed six-speed transmission is also very helpful to the driver. Its movements are above average and short for vans. However, it is true that due to the enormous torque in the engine, there is not much work with the gear lever.

Unless we were impressed by the plastic on the dashboard and the wall upholstery, we can't say the same about the transparency and usability of the dashboard. There are plenty of spacious drawers that are always close at hand, whether in the doors, overhead, or in the middle and far right (passenger) part of the dashboard.

The highlight of your well-being is a serviceable air conditioner. There were no complaints about the cold or too hot climate in the van, even after ten hours of driving. This one will never be boring, as the DM also allows for a livelier one, which is mainly the result of a good location on the road. We also did not notice the bouncing of rear seat passengers as the bikes rolled over bumps. However, that this is not a racing car, it became clear to us every time the speedometer needle stopped at 160 kilometers per hour, the actual measured speed is just under 150 kilometers per hour.

But for a van, that's enough. Travel-friendly fuel consumption that, with a moderately heavy leg, does not exceed nine liters, even when all the seats are occupied. Thus, the range is about 1.000 kilometers without a single stop at a gas station. With a long service interval where you only have to visit your technician every 40.000 kilometers, this is good news for your financial balance.

  • A lively engine, spaciousness, a secure position on the road, a driver-friendly workplace and savings when it comes to fuel consumption and maintenance costs are the strong points of the new Master. All we really needed was just more comfortable seats.
