Renault Laguna 2.0 dCi (127 kW) Elite

We also see in Lagoon that she is (probably) already in middle age. Therefore, Renault rejuvenated her in 2005, recently helped her build motor muscles and bring her back to the market. You ask, is everything so bad with her?

While midlife crisis has a kind of negative connotation, it's actually good. The Laguna, recently overshadowed by the (newer) rival limousines, is again more relevant (new bumpers, different headlights and, above all, better materials in the interior), much more shape (more powerful engine) and therefore more attractive. clients.

We usually speak in the best years as proven technology becomes more and more important to customers. The biggest change, apart from discrete design changes, is certainly the most powerful turbodiesel engine, which serves up to 127 kilowatts or more domestic 173 "horses".

The basis is known, it is a two-liter dCi engine with common rail technology, which serves 110 kilowatts and is now Renault's domestic powertrain, but it has still been redesigned. The electronics are new, the injectors are new, the turbocharger is more powerful, two more shafts are added to damp vibrations and, above all, a particulate filter is installed, which sends black smoke from the exhaust system to the waste of history. This is actually just a factory setting, but it works.

Equipped in this way, the Laguna is quite nimble (just look at the measurements!), sovereign in all six gears and, moreover, relatively economical. During the test, we measured its average consumption of nine liters per 100 kilometers, which is more than good news in terms of performance. As with the weaker (turbo-diesel) versions, the most powerful Laguna is a pleasure to ride, as the turbocharger breathes even at low revs, so when the turbine blades rotate, there is no disturbing “turbo hole” or pulling the steering wheel out of hand. full speed.

That's why it's true: quiet, economical and pleasant at motorway cruising speed, pleasant enough on old road serpentines. Thanks also to the fast and precise six-speed gearbox! The only drawback of the engine is the noise that it spreads around the neighborhood early in the morning, when the mechanics are still cold. But even more so outside than in the cabin, as the soundproofing is one of the best.

If I'm talking about xenon headlights, smart map, navigation, Bluetooth hands-free technology, leather and Alcantra on seats and door liners, cruise control and steering wheel controls for radio controls, you probably immediately think of prestigious high-end sedans. Those (mostly) German ones where these good morning sellers first offer a price list of over ten million. Very rarely do we think of French comforters who are in the shadow of the Germans, but no worse.

Laguna's trump card, although it sounds like an advertisement for a Korean car, is value for money. For less than seven million tolars you will get a nice, fairly safe, comfortable, relatively economical car, equipped with the latest technology on the market. Of course, as you can read in the pros and cons section, we missed out on a lot in the updated Laguna, such as a better driving position (despite the generous steering adjustment, you still have bent legs and the seat is too short) or really useful storage boxes for small items.

While the refurbished Laguna (might) boast the Elite name, don't be intimidated. Elite is not big money, extravagance or heavy taxes, but great equipment for moderate money. Including the excellent navigation system Carminat! And middle age (with or without a crisis) is not a condition for the driver to feel good in this car!
