Record number of exhibitors at Automechanika Istanbul 2014

The edition of the fair once again expressed the dynamics of the Turkish car industry.

The international exhibition of auto parts and service equipment Automechanika Istanbul, organized by the Turkish branches of the Frankfurt and Hanover fairs, closed a few days ago. The four-day event is the most important specialized forum for Turkey and the region, bringing together manufacturers and suppliers of auto parts and components, electronics and electrical systems, tuning accessories, service equipment, commercial and financial services, and gas station and car wash equipment.

Turkey's automotive industry continues to grow dynamically and ranks first among all industries. The manufacturers aim to achieve an annual production of two million vehicles and to increase the export volume to 50 billion euros. It will employ about 600 people, and this will be accompanied by a further increase in the volume of after-sales services. These expectations are reflected in the growth of Automechanika, which has been held every year. The exhibition that just ended has improved all last year's records both in terms of exhibition space (34 square meters) and in the number of participants (791 from 1475 countries).

An important part of the business

The organizers do not hide their satisfaction. “Automechanika Istanbul has become the leading and largest exhibition of its kind in Turkey and the region. With the transition to an annual cycle, we are even closer to the most important sectors of the global automotive industry. The 10% increase in all key figures is an indication that we have become an integral part of this business, ”said Alexander Kühnel, CEO of Hannover Fairs Turkey.

Alexander Medvedovich, Director of Messe Frankfurt Istanbul, shares a similar assessment: “International participation has always been a key strength of Automechanika Istanbul. The large number of exhibitors from many countries this year is a sign of success for everyone: the Automechanika brand, the teams that organized the exhibition, but mainly in the Turkish car market, as well as in the markets of neighboring countries. The combination of the constant need to import the latest technology for car manufacturers and subcontractors with the global potential of Turkish parts and components manufacturers proves it a win-win combination. ”

There were many new highlights at Automechanika Istanbul this year. The fair has switched to an annual cycle and is now held annually in April. The whole event has a new structure, corresponding to product groups, in connection with which new sectors have been identified, such as "Batteries", "Wheels and Tires", "Lubricants". In addition to free access, visitors receive new services such as an app for easy navigation and orientation at the exhibition, a new registration system that minimizes waiting times, and a completely new hall for exhibitors from the Far East.

Modest presence

Along with the stands of individual exhibitors from all over the world, national pavilions of Austria, Argentina, Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Italy, Pakistan, USA, Singapore, Serbia, Taiwan, Tunisia, France and Hong Kong were created. Also new were two regional groups of participants - from Southeast Europe and the Pacific Union (Mexico, Chile, Peru, Colombia). The centerpiece of this year was the presentation of Argentina, which focused on Argentine exports of auto equipment and auto parts, as well as business opportunities with companies from the South American country.

Unfortunately, the Bulgarian participation was reduced to one, albeit a large, stand, where the battery manufacturer Monbat was presented. The impressive range, including batteries for cars, tractors, trucks, buses and even NATO tanks such as the M1 Abrams, Challenger and Leopard II, attracted many visitors who patiently waited in line to speak to exhibitors and their Turkish representatives.

However, against the backdrop of impressive results for Serbian companies in a separate national pavilion, the lack of Bulgarian manufacturers of auto parts, consumables and service equipment looked disappointing - and in a region where the automotive industry is growing steadily.
