Extended test: Peugeot 308 - 1.2 PureTech 130 Allure

Winning the 2014 European Car of the Year title with a car belonging to a segment named after its German competitor was a sweet victory for Peugeot. Now that we are familiar with the 308, it becomes increasingly clear to us that the victory was deserved.

The Peugeot 308 doesn't stand out in any direction visually, but there is still a sense of consistency that indicates its sophistication and touch of luxury with chrome accents. To top it off, there are also lights with daily LED signature and turn signals that now indicate direction by gradually turning on the LEDs. The quality of workmanship and decoration is undeniable, positive feedback is transmitted in the interior. The cockpit may be a little less daring, but it is consistent and perfect in terms of ergonomics. The vast majority of the buttons on the center console have been eaten away by the 9,7-inch infotainment screen, which is easy to use, thanks in part to convenient shortcuts next to the screen.

Although the wheelbase is average in this segment, the spaciousness of the cabin is one of the advantages of "three hundred and eight" over competitors. Even taller people will find a good driving position, the seats are notoriously comfortable and we are now used to looking at steering wheel gauges. You can also fit three adults in the back seat, but two will be much more comfortable to sit in. If you're transporting your child in the back seat in a child seat, you'll appreciate the easy access to the ISOFIX connectors.

Small turbochargers are now firmly established in the 'three hundred and eight' segment. An engine like this provides a lot of responsiveness and agility, but if you know how to brake your right foot, it will also reward you with low fuel consumption. The chassis is fairly neutral, providing a secure position with added comfort, but disappointing for anyone looking for agility and dynamism.

Since the C segment is a kind of "maturity test" for all manufacturers, Peugeot successfully coped with this with the 308. Moreover, the first place was always awarded to the model from Wolfsburg, and after it there was a fierce battle for second place. Those days are clearly over.
