Five amazing new technologies that we will soon see in cars

The CES (Consumer Electronics Show), a consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, has established itself as the place to debut not only the most futuristic cars, but also the most advanced automotive technologies. Some of the developments are far from real application.

We will probably see them in production models in no more than two years. And some can be introduced into modern vehicles in just a few months. Here are the five most interesting ones presented this year.

Audio system without speakers

Car audio systems today are complex works of art, but they also have two major problems: high cost and heavy weight. Continental has partnered with Sennheiser to offer a truly revolutionary system, completely devoid of traditional speakers. Instead, the sound is created by special vibrating surfaces on the dashboard and inside the car.

This saves space and gives more freedom in interior design, while reducing the weight of the car, and with it the cost. The creators of the system assure that the sound quality is not only not inferior, but even superior to the quality of classical systems.

Transparent front panel

The idea is so simple that it is amazing how no one has ever thought about it. Of course, the Continental transparent cover is not transparent, but consists of a number of cameras, sensors and a screen. The driver and passengers can see on the screen what is under the front wheels.

Thus, the chance of colliding with something or damaging your car in an invisible zone is sharply reduced. The technology has won one of the biggest awards of CES organizers.

End of keyless theft

Keyless entry is a nice option, but there is a huge security risk - in fact, thieves can take your car while drinking coffee, just by picking up the signal from the key in your pocket.

To eliminate this risk, Continental engineers use an ultra-wideband connection in which the car computer can detect your location with amazing accuracy and at the same time recognize the authentic key signal.

Vandal Protection

The Touch Sensor System (or CoSSy for short) is a groundbreaking system that detects and analyzes sounds in the vehicle's environment. It also accurately recognizes in a fraction of a second that the car is about to crash into another object when parking, and in an emergency applies the brakes to protect the car from scratches.

This system can also help in cases of vandalism, for example, it will set off an alarm if you try to scratch the car's paint. The potential benefits of this are much wider - for example, detecting specific sounds at the onset of hydroplaning and activating the car's electronic assistants much earlier. The system will be ready for serial installation in 2022.

The experience of using cinemas and TVs with 3D function makes us a little skeptical about such technologies (without special equipment, the picture quality is very poor). But this three-dimensional information system, developed by startups Leia Continental and Silicon Valley, does not need special glasses or other accessories.

Any information, from the navigation map to phone calls, can be displayed as a three-dimensional light image, which makes it much easier for the driver to perceive it. It does not depend on the angle of view, that is, the rear passengers will see it. Navigation can be done without touching the panel surface.
