Traffic Laws. The use of external lighting devices.

19.1

In the dark and in conditions of insufficient visibility, regardless of the degree of illumination of the road, as well as in tunnels on a moving vehicle, the following lighting devices must be switched on:

a)on all motor vehicles - dipped beam (main beam);
b)on mopeds (bicycles) and horse-drawn carts (sleighs) - headlights or lanterns;
at)on trailers and towed vehicles - marker lights.

Note. In conditions of insufficient visibility on motor vehicles, it is permitted to turn on fog lights instead of dipped (main beam) headlights.

19.2

The high beam should be switched to the low beam no less than 250m. to the oncoming vehicle, as well as when it can blind other drivers, in particular those moving in the same direction.

The light must be switched at a greater distance, if the driver of the oncoming vehicle by periodically switching the headlights indicates a need for this.

19.3

In the case of deterioration of visibility in the direction of movement caused by the headlights of oncoming vehicles, the driver must reduce the speed to one that would not exceed a safe road in the direction of movement under the conditions of actual visibility, and in case of blinding, stop without changing the lane and turn on emergency light alarm. The resumption of movement is allowed only after the negative effects of blinding have passed.

19.4

During a stop on the road in the dark and in conditions of insufficient visibility on the vehicle, side or parking lights must be switched on, and in case of a forced stop, additionally, an emergency warning light.

In conditions of insufficient visibility, it is permitted to additionally switch on the dipped beam or fog lamps and rear fog lamps.

If the side lights are faulty, the vehicle should be removed off the road, and if this is not possible, it must be marked in accordance with the requirements of paragraphs 9.10 and 9.11 of these Rules.

19.5

Fog lights can be used in conditions of insufficient visibility both separately and with low or high beam headlights, and at night on unlit sections of roads - only together with low or high beam headlights.

19.6

Spotlight and searchlight can only be used by drivers of operational vehicles during the performance of official tasks, taking measures so as not to blind other road users.

19.7

It is forbidden to connect the rear fog lights to the braking signals.

19.8

The sign of the road train established in accordance with the requirements of subparagraph "а"Clause 30.3 of these Rules, should be constantly on while driving, and at night or in conditions of insufficient visibility - and during a forced stop, stop or stop on the road.

19.9

The rear fog lamp may only be used in poor visibility conditions, both during daylight and at night.
