Test drive see how fast the SSC Tuatara hypercar

The American model easily beats the legendary Bugatti Veyron in the race.

In February, 10 years after development and production, SSC (Shelby Super Cars) finally unveiled its Tuatara hypercar in series production at the Florida Auto Show. The model can now move freely on public roads, since it is equipped with everything necessary to obtain a permit: dimensions, wipers and rear-view cameras instead of classic mirrors.

There was very little information about this car in the form of official presentations and commercials, not to mention the tests carried out by journalists. And so, in the video below, this new hypercar went to “mere mortals” to show their power and speed. And the role of "mere mortal" is the legendary supercar Bugatti Veyron.

The author of the video, YouTuber TheStradman, could not contain his emotions and joy from the fact that he was one of the first to see a race with a real heavenly inhabitant of the racing car industry. At first you can see the Tuatara and Veyron moving together, but as fast and powerful as the French model is, the SSC creation calmly rushes forward and takes an easy victory. At the same time, despite some slipping of the Tuatara in low gears. Veyron simply doesn't stand a chance.

Stradman then hopped into the Tuatara's passenger seat, driven by SSC founder Jarod Shelby himself, rejoicing like a boy. Seeking to show what the model is capable of, Shelby accelerates to 389,4 km / h in just half a mile (just over 800 m). Even more impressive is that the Tuatara has an incredible fifth gear at 7000 rpm. For information, the hypercar has 7 gears, and the "red line" runs at 8000 rpm.

These amazing dynamic functions are provided by a 5,9-liter V8 engine with two turbochargers and 1750 horsepower when running E85 - a mixture of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. Power on gasoline with an octane rating of 91 is 1350 hp. The engine is paired with a high-speed transmission from Italy's Automac Engineering, which shifts gears in less than 100 milliseconds in normal mode, and in less than 50 milliseconds with track settings.

The Tuatara weighs just 1247 kg thanks to the use of carbon fiber in the monocoque, chassis and body parts and even the 20-inch wheels. From a unique hypercar 100 copies will be produced in total, the base price announced by the company will be $ 1,6 million.

SSC is open about wanting to push the Tuatara to over 300 mph (482 km/h), and if successful, it will be the first production supercar to break that barrier. The model is the successor to the SSC Ultimate Aero TT coupe, which set a production car record of 2007 km / h in 412. Since then, the owner of the achievement has changed several times and now belongs to the Koenigsegg Agera RS hypercar (457,1 km / h). Not to mention the unique Bugatti Chiron coupe, modified by Dallara, with a more powerful engine, longer body and lowered suspension, reaching a speed of 490,48 km / h.
