Used Nissan Qashqai - what to expect?

Nissan Qashqai is not the first or even the hundredth crossover in the history of the automotive industry. Many brands have been producing cars in this segment for over 10 years. However, the Nissan model has established itself as one of the most iconic on the market since it appeared in 2008, when crossovers were not so popular. In addition, it was relatively cheaper, and at the same time no less reliable.

7 years ago, the Japanese manufacturer released the second generation Qashqai, which accordingly led to a reduction in the cost of the first. It continues to enjoy a steady interest in the used car market, being presented in two versions - a standard 5-seater and an extended (+2) with two additional seats.

Body

The body of the first Qashqai has good rust protection, but the paint and varnish coverage is not very good and scratches and dents appear quickly. The plastic elements of the optics darken after 2-3 years of use. Rear door handles that fail are also referred to as a problem.

All these problems were taken into account by the management of Nissan, who listened to complaints from their customers and eliminated them after a facelift in 2009. Therefore, it is recommended to buy a car manufactured after 2010.

Suspension

Serious problems and shortcomings of the model are not reported. The shock absorber bearings and wheels in the first units of the model fail after about 90 km, but after a facelift in 000, their service life increased at least 2009 times. The owners also complain about the steering rack oil seals, as well as the front brake pistons.

It should be noted, however, that many Qashqai owners confuse a crossover with an SUV. This is why the rear wheel solenoid clutch sometimes fails after long periods of sliding the car through mud or snow. And it's not cheap at all.

Engines

There are 5 engines available for the model. Petrol - 1,6-liter, 114 hp. and a 2,0-liter 140 hp. Diesels 1,5-liter capacity of 110 hp and a 1,6-liter, developing 130 and 150 hp. All of them are relatively reliable and, with proper maintenance, will not mislead the car owner. The belt of gasoline engines begins to stretch at 100 km and must be replaced. The same applies to the rear engine mount, the service life of which is the same.

Some owners complain about problems with the gas pump. Over time, the coolant began to evaporate, and it is imperative to check the tank in which it is located. Sometimes it cracks. The manufacturer also recommends regular replacement of spark plugs as they are quite sensitive.

Transmission

Timely oil change is required, as otherwise the owner expects a major overhaul. The CVT transmission belt travels a maximum of 150 km and, if not replaced, begins to damage the surface of the tapered washers that it connects. It is recommended to replace the drive shaft bearings together with the belt.

Salon

Comfortable seats with good lateral support are a serious plus of the model. We should also mention the large side mirrors. The materials in the interior are pleasant to the touch and durable. The position of the driver (and passengers) is high, which creates a pleasant feeling of better control and more safety.

A small trunk volume can be considered a disadvantage, but one should not forget that this is a compact crossover designed for urban driving. Accordingly, its dimensions are more compact, so it is easier to operate.

To buy or not?

In general, Qashqai is a reliable model that has proven itself over time. Proof of this is the stable demand in the used car market. With the change of generations, most of the initial flaws have been eliminated, so choose a car made after 2010.
