It is really difficult to find a small diesel with such a “mature” engine: a 1.6 bhp 120 turbodiesel that has been extensively tested and packed with horsepower and torque. An (almost) sporty diesel “B segment”.
La Peugeot 208 BlueHDi 120 5p. is one of the last representatives of a race in danger of extinction: that of small diesels "Peppery". At one time the list was full of diesel "B segment" from 120 HP upwards while now they can be counted on the fingers of a pigeon (in addition to her there are in fact only the DS DS3 и Mini).
In our road test we have to test the option turbodiesel more expensive than the little Lion in the sporty set-up GTLine, the only one available in combination with this engine. Let's find out how it goes ...
city
La Peugeot 208 gets along well in city: in the maneuvers you have to deal with the absence of protection for the bodywork and with the parktronic rear with optional rear view camera (490 euros) but it must be said that the visibility is good and that the length of less than four meters (3,97, to be exact) helps.
A little duretta of suspensions on the cobblestones (but nothing to worry about, mind you), it gives a progressive delivery and a good thrust (“0-100” in 9,4 seconds) and in the sprint from a standstill few competitors manage to keep up with it.
Outside the city
La Peugeot 208 BlueHDi 120 5p. it is not sporty but it is very close to it. The strength of the Small French is the engine: an excellent 1.6 bhp 120 turbodiesel (present on all cars of the French company except the city car 108 e ion) rich in horsepower and torque (300 Nm) characterized by a delivery typical of diesel units. Ready under 2.000 rpm and linear up to approximately 4.000 rpm.
To all this is added a reassuring road behavior in all situations, a Speed six-speed manual from the handy lever and one steering sensitive to the right point embellished with a steering wheel small which contributes significantly to increasing involvement.

There are competitors of the Peugeot 208 BlueHDi 120 5p. which perform better in motorway: the stiffness but not too much is felt on the hollows while the sound of the engine when cold and during acceleration is not very appealing.
On the other hand, braking and perceived safety are excellent. As for theautonomy the transalpine brand declares a mileage of 1.250 kg but only during an economy run it is possible to exceed 1.000.
Life on board
Average habitability, trunk (285 liters) without infamy and without praise and a compartment that does not become completely horizontal when the rear seats are folded down: under "versatility" the Peugeot 208 responds with these characteristics.
La dashboard of the small French version has a lot of hard plastic in the upper and lower part, but hidden by a pleasant “soft” insert in the area closest to sight and touch. Chapter ergonomics: the commands are more or less all intuitive except those of theautoradio.

La Warranty is only two years with unlimited mileage (the minimum required by law) while the preservation of value promises to be good (although the less powerful 75 and 100 hp diesel versions will certainly be more in demand). THE consumption declared say 27,8 km / l and with a moderate driving style you can stay above 20.
