The cockpit design is largely identical to that of the Astra.

Since mid-2017, the Meriva bath has been replaced by the Crossland X. The new CUV (Utility Vehicle Crossover), also with a variable interior, sits on the same platform as the new Citroën C3 Picasso.

Stylish, unpretentious, amazing - these are the attributes that Opel has released for its new model. To fit everything under the metal shell of the new Opel Crossland X, it relies entirely on the crossover map. It is positioned as the second model of the X, somewhere above the Mokka X and has already filled the palette with the compact Grandland X in the fall.

Back in 2015, Opel and PSA announced their alliance. It says they will build the B-MPV as well as the C-CUV at GM's Zaragoza and PSA's Sochaux plants. In the C segment, the upcoming Peugeot 2008 and the now unveiled Opel Crossland X are the result of a collaboration.

Crossland X borrows from Astra

The new Opel Crossland X does not claim to be an off-roader for rough terrain, but the boom in the SUV segment has long extended to so-called crossovers. It is these many potential customers who intend to attack Opel in the future. This is why the Crossland has an impressive look and a high fit. With a car length of 4,21 meters, the Crossland X is 16 centimeters shorter than the Opel Astra, and the height of 1,59 meters is 10 cm higher. Width 1,76 meters. The five-seat model has a cargo space of 410 liters. Functionality is provided by a long, three-piece rear seat that folds down completely and swings to the side. If you just put it forward, the trunk has a volume of 520 liters, and when folded, the volume already reaches 1255 liters.

The design of the Opel Crossland combines elements of the Opel Adam, such as the roof and many Mokka Xs, the proportions are not very different from the Meriva, which was replaced by the Crossland. The Crossland X features a distinctive front grille with a sleek Opel-Blitz design and dual-light LED graphics and AFL-LED headlights. The chrome line on the trailing edge of the roof is from Adam. The rear protection is typical of SUVs and the rear lights are also LED technology. Plastic panels located throughout the body give the exterior a striking look.

Test drive on the new Opel Crossland X

The almost unchanged proportions compared to the Meriva make it easy to get to Crossland. The seating position is elevated, which will appeal to crossover and van buyers. Just between the steering wheel and the windshield is the large plastic surface that makes the front end of the new model look great, in contrast to the unpretentious rear of the Crossland X that many modern cars have on it, as well as the remarkable C-pillar.

But even when a 1,85 meter tall person sits in the front seat and adjusts the steering wheel as well as the position of the seat, his rear twin will also be able to sit well behind him. His knees will only touch the front seat backrests when the retractable rear seat is in one-third of the nine possible positions and lightly touches the headliner, because the show model surprises with a large panoramic glass roof for more light. Rear seat passengers' feet fit easily under the front seat.

Practical: The center backrest of the rear seat can simply be folded forward without forming a lintel or frame: this provides an almost 30 cm wide clearance for access to the luggage compartment. There are two cup holders between the rear passengers, which can be located in the trunk. The trunk has a flat double floor, without a step at the rear edge and in front of the backrests. The floor itself does not look very elastic.

The upper part of the dashboard made of porous material captures in front of our eyes, there is an inductive charging option in the center console, a 12-volt socket and USB connection for electrical appliances, and a steering wheel with many control buttons fits comfortably in the hand. The lower parts of the cab upholstery look less high-quality, as did the gray decorative surfaces in the test car, and what shines like chrome doesn't feel the coldness of the metal. The Z-shaped mechanical parking brake is reminiscent of a Peugeot. A comfortable atmosphere is provided by the panoramic roof (option) and, above all, by the large space, which, for example, the VW Golf easily surpasses it.

The cockpit design is largely identical to that of the Astra. Only the air conditioner control zone is configured differently. The center console is dominated by an 8-inch color touchscreen. Of course the new Crossland X has a good network.

Opel Crossland X without all-wheel drive option

The basic version of the new Crossland X with a 112-liter petrol engine and 81 hp. costs 16 euros, which is about 850 euros more expensive than the Meriva. It is joined by an Ecotec version with start/stop function and CO2 emissions of 93 g/km. The economical version consumes 2 liters of diesel fuel per 3,8 kilometers. There is also a propane-butane-powered version with a 1,2-liter 81 hp engine that has a bivalent design. The three-cylinder engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The 36-liter tank replaces the spare wheel, leaving room for the vehicle. In dual-mode operation, a distance of 1300 km (according to NEDC) can be covered in one filling. Crossland x with propane-butane engine costs 21 euros.

Crossland X modifications are available with front-wheel drive only. Conceptually, four-wheel drive is not provided.
