2021 MG HS Review: Vibe Shot

The Vibe is a MG HS mid-size SUV that is priced at $31,990.

Like the entry-level Core, it's only available as a front-wheel drive car with the same 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine (119kW/250Nm) mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The Vibe has an official combined fuel consumption figure of 7.3L/100km, although we scored a verified 9.5L/100km in our weekly Core test. All HS variants require 95 octane medium quality unleaded gasoline.

The Vibe uses the same basic hardware as the entry-level core, with a 10.1-inch multimedia touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, 17-inch alloy wheels, a semi-digital instrument cluster, and halogen headlights with LED DRLs. On top of that, the Vibe offers keyless entry thanks to push-button ignition, synthetic leather interior trim and steering wheel, power-folding auto-folding side mirrors and a set of roof rails.

Vibe supports a full active safety package including automatic emergency braking up to 150 km/h and pedestrian detection up to 64 km/h, lane keeping assist with lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic. traffic alert, automatic high beams, traffic sign recognition and adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist.

Like the Core below it, the Vibe has ample front and rear room for both passengers and storage despite its unusually high seating position. Boot volume is 451 liters (VDA), the lowest in the midsize SUV segment, and space is saved under the boot floor.

The Vibe is backed by a seven-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, although limited-price service has not been recorded at the time of writing.
