Review: Mazda MX-5 1.8i Takumi

You know, today everyone is playing some kind of rearview mirror. We hear everywhere that retro is “in fashion,” and the automotive industry is no exception. Beetles, Fičaki, Miniji - they all seek the sympathy of customers, copying their emotions and wonderful feelings from their youth. However, in front of us is a car with a pedigree and a rich history, so that it can play a game similar to the cars mentioned above. But he doesn't want to go. From the very beginning, they have modernized the car from generation to generation, but it is still the original roadster - original, but keeping up with the times.

It was clear that even this time the MX-5, which became part of Avtomagazin, would not bring any special revolutionary changes. This is an advanced testing equipment called Takumi. Unveiled this year in Geneva, the MX-5 Takumi is recognizable by its brown leather seats, chrome grille trim, selected wheel rims, TomTom navigation in the center console, integrated cruise control and some cosmetic accessories inside. The aforementioned set of accessories will cost you 1.800 euros, which is much less than if you assembled equipment at the regular price list.

Otherwise, what to emphasize? Mazda is undoubtedly an enjoyable car. It will bring a smile to anyone who loves dynamic driving. The ability to steer was one of the most famous features of this car. The steering is excellent, the steering wheel is responsive, conveys information clearly and informs the driver of what is happening under the tires.

Ninety-three kilowatts and four cylinders doesn't sound very impressive, does it? However, because the MX-5 is such a light and well-balanced car, it just works, especially when it comes to the rescue with a great, well-timed five-speed gearbox with extremely short shifts.

As usual, this time in the hopes that Mazda development engineers are reading Avto magazine, we give some tips for improving the next generation MX-5: we would also like to see a depth-adjustable steering wheel, a more precisely adjustable backrest, slightly better protection from the wind and possibly an inch more for the longitudinal offset of the seat.

Even after 22 years and three generations, the MX-5 remains an extremely attractive and interesting vehicle. Like its original rendition, it still draws the most sympathy for its originality and ability to please the driver.
