In 2016, the Honda Civic was completely redesigned, there were a lot of updates, from the layout of the engines to the multimedia system. We will try to consider and highlight all the innovations and evaluate them from the point of view of practicality and economics, that is, the requirements that this class of cars must satisfy.
At the beginning of the year, the model was officially presented only in the sedan body, and the coupe and 4-door hatchback will appear a little later. In 2016, the manufacturer ceases to produce the Hybrid model and the natural gas model. Perhaps this is due to the low demand for these models.
What's new in the 2016 Honda Civic
In addition to the updated multimedia systems, which seem to hint at the revival of Honda's pioneering spirit, there are updates under the hood. Namely, a 1,5 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, which produces 174 hp, with a fabulously low consumption for such power - 5,3 liters per 100 km. The 1,8 liter engine was replaced by a 2,0 liter engine with 158 hp.
The situation with the interior has also changed, more space has been allocated for the rear passengers, which significantly adds to the “family” character of this car. Driving comfort has not changed much, since in previous versions of Honda has already achieved high-quality soundproofing of the arches and thus silence in the cabin.
The main competitors of the new Civic are still Mazda 3 and Ford Focus. Mazda is distinguished by its dynamic qualities and handling, but the place for rear passengers is an absolute minus of the model. Focus is more balanced in this regard and allows you to meet most requirements at an average level.
Packages
In 2016, the sedan of the new Honda Civic comes in the following trim levels: LX, EX, EX-T, EX-L, Touring.
The basic configuration of the LX is equipped with the following set of options:
- 16-inch steel wheels;
- automatic headlights;
- LED daytime running lights and taillights;
- full power;
- Cruise control;
- automatic climate control;
- 5-inch display on the center panel;
- Rear View Camera;
- the ability to connect a phone via BlueTooth;
- USB connector on the multimedia system.
In addition to the LX, the EX trim gets the following options:
- 16-inch alloy wheels;
- sunroof;
- side mirrors on the roof;
- immobilizer (the ability to start without a key);
- rear armrest with cup holders;
- 7-inch touchscreen display;
- 2 USB ports.
The EX-T gets a turbocharged engine, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and a voice-activated navigation system, and a rain sensor. Fog lights and a rear spoiler have also been added to the exterior. From the technical options added pre-launch, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control.
For the EX-L, there are few innovations: a leather interior, including a steering wheel and gearshift knob, a rear-view mirror with automatic dimming.
And finally, the top-of-the-line Touring, which includes all of the options described above, plus 17-inch alloy wheels and the Honda Sensing safety system, which allows you to monitor the traffic situation and warn the driver about dangers, as well as to brake when the driver does not respond to system warnings. Specifications and transmission
The 2016 LX and EX trim levels are equipped with a 2,0-liter naturally aspirated engine. A 6-speed manual transmission is fitted as standard, while a CVT is already available on the EX.
The base with the mechanics will consume 8,7 liters per 100 km., When driving in the city and 5,9 liters on the highway. A car with a CVT will be more economical: 7,5 l / 5,7 l in the city and highway, respectively.
The richer configurations EX-T, EX-L, Touring are equipped with a turbocharged 1,5 engine, coupled with only a variator. Fuel economy on the turbocharged version is slightly better than that of the standard version: 7,5 l / 5,6 l in city and highway, respectively.

The 2016 Honda Civic has become more pronounced on the road, in other words, the control has become clearer, which cannot be said about the previous versions of this model. The 2,0-liter engine, coupled with the CVT, may seem quite sluggish, but it is great for simple city driving. If you want dynamics, then this is for sports versions such as the Civic Si.
The 1,5 liter versions of the engines have much more lively dynamics, of course this configuration with a CVT variator is one of the best in this class.
Earlier we talked about the fact that the rear passengers have more space, where did it come from? The car increased in size, both in length and in width, and a little space was cut from the trunk. Therefore, we can say that in 2016 the Civic has certainly improved in all plans, and this allows him to keep his place in the top three class leaders.
