Nissan X-Trail 2.0 dCi SE

As can be seen in the photographs, they were obeyed, at least from the outside. By the looks of it, the previous owners were convincing enough, but also loud enough due to the sheer numbers, that Nissan's strategists had to obey. Few people at first glance will notice that in front of you is a completely new car.

Even though it is longer (175mm), wider (20mm) and taller (10mm), and although they have actually changed almost every part of the body, you will recognize the newcomer mainly due to the changed headlights (front and rear). , a revised radiator grille and a third brake light, which is now integrated into the body, rather than under the rear window. Therefore, the rear window can also be tinted, which was previously impossible due to the brake light. However, they have retained the essence: a square shape, off-road look with relatively short overhangs and roof racks that hide additional tall beams. They can be a strong advantage in any night duels that last long with high beams, so we advise oncoming drivers not to challenge X-Trail owners. Believe me, you are doomed to failure in advance. ...

But this progress still requires changes that are visible and felt from within. The previous X-Trail boasted an unusual dashboard layout as the gauges were located right at the top of the center console. Thus, the current speed data was not only reserved for the driver, but could also be seen by the liquid wife (“Should it be so fast?”) Or seen by children (“Eyes, gases!”). To provide more peace of mind in the family, the instrument panel is now in front of the driver, which is not conducive to innovation, but is definitely more familiar to most drivers.

The reason, of course, is not in the kinship of languages, but in the possibility of installing the screen on which the navigator is located. Without moving the dashboard, the screen could only be positioned somewhere in the middle of the center console, or even below it, which would be opaque and therefore annoying for users. Well, the speedometers and revs are nicely designed and transparent, and the smaller one (in the middle) contains a lot of (digital) data that is small and therefore less visible.

Consequently, you have to look twice at the display of the current gear (called sequential switching) or watch it for a longer time if you want to see the correct number, which is unpleasant and even more secure. In the passenger compartment, you will soon feel that royal feeling that any car, located a little further off the ground, gives. The transparency is excellent due to the high position, you just need to get used to reversing (which is not difficult because of the two huge rear-view mirrors), the ergonomics are satisfactory, despite the short part of the seat, there are many boxes for storing small items.

The plastic on the center console is now better quality, although we all agreed that it could be better fitted to the gear lever, as the soft plastic just cracks under the fingers with every shift. And among us, journalists, our fingers are accustomed only to a computer keyboard, can you imagine what the "shovels" of foresters or soldiers would do? Speaking of soldiers, let me tell you that during the trials, we affectionately renamed our white X-Trail UNPROFOR. Guess why?

Ease of use and plenty of power even in the field are, of course, the reasons why the Nissan SUV is so popular where life literally depends on reliable transportation. The chassis is shared with the smaller Qashqai so it has a custom suspension up front and a multi-link rear axle, a good compromise between comfort, usability and reliability.

However, when it becomes heavier on a smoothed road, the nose constantly wants to get out of the turn (regardless of whether you are driving on two or four wheels), which is not the most pleasant, despite the good electric power steering, and on gravel it swallows irregularities sovereignly when driving slowly. When the driver becomes more demanding, he must first of all make sure that all passengers in the car have a good stomach.

Good off-road performance also provided tires with larger grooves, but they performed slightly worse under full braking. We not only increased the braking distance, but also slowed down a little when measuring, which (fortunately) does not happen very often today with modern cars. Ah, what we want is compromises. ...

The X-Trail has a great transition between individual drivetrains, as it is so easy to use that it can easily be overlooked by an awkward blonde on the first ride (so you wouldn't think we don't like blondes at Avto's store, on the contrary). The large rotary knob next to the gear lever requires no energy, just enough fingers to move from two-wheel drive to full drive.

But it goes something like this: when it's dry and smooth, it's smart to "pull" just one set of wheels (the X-Trail is front-wheel drive, unfortunately, so no fun on the gravel) when it gets wet and slippery. , it can be while driving, choose an automatic (which regulates how much power goes to the rear wheels), and in mud or sand you can legalize the drive four times four (50:50). When the going gets really tough, you'll appreciate USS, which makes the car automatically wait in place to take your foot off the gas brake, and DDS, which automatically brakes downhill.

USS works automatically, while DDS has to be called up by a button on the center lug and it works in both first and reverse gear when it automatically maintains a speed of seven kilometers per hour. Since it is sometimes even recommended that the wheels slip in the field, the new X-Trail also features a switchable ESP system. Do you want to know what he is capable of? The lowest chassis height is 20 centimeters, so because of the shorter overhangs, you can climb caves with an entry angle of 29 and an exit angle of 20 degrees. However, if this is not enough for you, you can slowly submerge yourself in water, which should not exceed 35 centimeters. Doesn't that mean anything to you? Trust me, with the right tires, you will give up before your vehicle breaks down.

The engine was created for this car. The sound is a little rough, as if to tell everyone that the X-Trail is the most SUV among SUVs, but peppy enough and moderately thirsty for more powerful (127 kilowatts or 173 horsepower, which you can also get into this car) is not necessary at all . Even with that, you can be one of the fastest on the track, brave on overtaking, or out of money for fuel when you go on a long trip.

For an additional fee, you can remember the automatic transmission we tested. Help for the Right has six levels and only a few weak points that will tickle our nerves. Maybe he can afford a little jump when going from R to D, maybe a clumsy driver sometimes seduces him and makes a little money on his own, maybe he is not one of the fastest, but he is polite and follows the orders of those who want it. in the X-Trail. In short, with this combination, you can't go wrong with your purchase.

The trunk is another trump card that cannot be overlooked. Compared to its predecessor, it has grown a little (603 liters), but may have less main space and a double bottom, as well as a convenient box (like the test one). But if you want even more, you can easily increase luggage space with a rear seat that switches in a 40:20:40 ratio.

Even though the X-Trail is a brand new car, only you and the friends you invited to drink over the new steel horse will know about it. The neighbor will not envy you, the tax authorities will not suspect, even the unprepared will prefer to turn to the more conspicuous model parked on your street. But what an advantage this is, the old owners know, and if there are enough of them to obey even the factory, we must take their word for it.

Overall rating (326/420)

  • The Nissan X-Trail does not draw attention to itself, but after a few days it will penetrate your skin. It is quite useful despite the flotation under the tires, modest despite its bouncing ability, and quite strong, although it is just an SUV.

  • Exterior (13/15)

Although it is new, it does not attract attention. Good workmanship.

  • Interior (112/140)

Relatively large (usable) space, good ergonomics of the driver's workplace, a few points lost due to calibers and materials.

  • Engine, transmission (36

    / 40)

Very good engine (no more powerful), reliable but slow automatic transmission.

  • Driving performance (68

    / 95)

It loses a few points due to tires (they have proven themselves on the ground with a deeper profile), some due to stability, and gains them due to the steering wheel and driving.

  • Performance (31/35)

Despite the automatic transmission, acceleration and top speed are enviable.

  • Security (37/45)

Good stock with standard safety package, extended stopping distance.

  • Economy

Competitive price, little loss in value, modest fuel consumption.
