Nissan celebrates the release of the 500th LEAF

The car, manufactured at the Sunderland plant, was delivered to a customer in Norway shortly before World Electric Car Day.

In honor of World Electric Vehicle Day, Nissan is celebrating the production of the 500th LEAF, the first fully electric vehicle in production. With half a million units produced, more and more people around the world have the opportunity to enjoy the latest in zero-emission vehicles.

This important event took place at the Sunderland plant, almost ten years after the model went on sale. Since 2013 175 units have been produced in England to date.
Nissan's Sunderland manufacturing facility builds LEAFs to the highest standards to ensure that each LEAF embodies passion and innovation, striving to advance in sustainable mobility.

The Nissan LEAF has won awards around the world, including Car of the Year 2011 in Europe, Car of the World 2011, and Car of the Year in Japan in 2011 and 2012. Eco car Bulgaria for 2019, but more importantly, the car has won the trust of hundreds of thousands of users.

Maria Jansen from Norway became the lucky winner of LEAF number 500.

“My husband and I bought a Nissan LEAF in 2018. and we have been in love with this model ever since,” said Ms Jansen. “We are very pleased to own the 500th Nissan LEAF. This car fully meets our needs with increased mileage and the latest technology.”

Paving the way for an electrified future
With over 14,8 billion kilometers of net kilometers driven since 2010, LEAF owners worldwide have helped save over 2,4 billion kilograms of CO2 emissions.
During the isolation caused by COVID-19, air quality around the world has also improved thanks to the reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. In Europe, polls show that 68% of people support measures to prevent a return to previous levels of air pollution2.
“Consumers have experienced cleaner air and reduced noise levels during the lockdown,” said Helen Perry, Head of Electric Vehicles and Infrastructure at Nissan Europe. “Now, more than ever, they are committed to taking the next steps towards a more sustainable future, and Nissan LEAF is contributing to that effort.”
