Nissan Almera 1.8 16V Comfort Plus

How to collect four people with a lot of luggage in Almera and send them on a multi-day trip? So, you take off the boot parcel shelf, put it in first, and when it doesn't come off, you squeeze backpacks, sleeping bags, travel bags and more over and over ... and then some of that over and over in the rear seats. and again ... in between you fight twice with passengers that you have to carry the next 2500 kilometers one way and back, then calm down, think, put all the trash and back, jump in your hair again, and then say goodbye to the third technique. "It doesn't work, what the hell." And then, two days later, in Alicante, you discover that, among other things, this bag contained underwear, and that shops in Spain are also closed for the New Year. In short, it's hard.

Too small a trunk and, as a result, too little living space for a crew of four were the main drawbacks of Almera's toughest test to date in our supertest, a trip to southern Spain that we embarked on as the Catholic world bade farewell to the second millennium. Namely, when we managed to squeeze (almost) everything we needed into this car, which is just over four meters long, it would be difficult to say that there is enough space for passengers. Maybe by Asian standards. (Now, all of you who have been tortured on a bus in India or in an equally populous third world country, you know what I mean. On your knees with which you can wipe your nose if you accidentally forget about your handkerchiefs.)

Okay, I'm exaggerating, but the fact is that the most desirable place on our trip was the place behind the wheel where the driver was able to learn something interesting. For example, that the Almera is a comfortable car with a good and powerful engine that otherwise loses agility under full load but retains agility.

I remember, somewhere on the ring road of Ljubljana, I turned on the fifth gear, and then nothing to the limit, nothing in Italy, if I'm not mistaken, not on the Cote d'Azur in France, somewhere in the depths of Spain, I think I had to cross slightly lower, on the third. The creature in the nose of the car spins and stretches beautifully and doesn't even bother with hard braking or acceleration. He always pulls. More than once I have caught myself looking around the gear lever and looking for familiar automatic transmission plates. Which is basically normal, because nothing has improved with the mileage. It is still chewy inaccurate.

Also commendable is its chassis and overall road handling. Sporty souls will now frown because it will clearly be too soft for them, but with some common sense in cornering, driving remains neutral and stable even under (too) heavy load and comfortable when combined with a flexible motor. And we can say this after we have already tested it on all possible grounds and in all conditions that may meet with you on the road. When, for example, heavy snow began to fall in Bresca and strong and gusty winds joined Geno's exchange of snow and rain, Almera's low and rounded side profile was also commendably cut off. He continued to drive quickly and safely.

Next. Almera, as we informed you in one of our previous reports, has already received one or two scratches on the sheet metal. On the right, someone had to scratch us (or rather her) while the car was parked.

I warn you that such statements should be treated with some restraint. A man, especially a man, and especially if he is in the role of a test driver, finds it difficult to admit his mistake and the fact that the business entrusted to him is so uncomfortable and looks like a grandmother leaning against the nearest wall. Well, I'll risk some of my macho reputation and admit that I also left my signature on her (so far) beautiful metallic bluish green. So, the right front bumper and the side of the car are mine. On the way from the parking lot, I sang for some time and about a miracle, it happens, resk, the color has gone. Otherwise a scratch but a warning.

With its baroque curves that make it difficult for the untrained eye to determine the correct circumference, and with not too large glass surfaces that taper evenly towards the rear, the Almera is an opaque car. At least until you get used to it. Part of this resentment can also be expressed in the strongly tilted roof racks, which, by their massiveness, give a feeling of security, but especially with sharp turns to the left, the field of view is significantly reduced. But it's not just Almera's specialty, and it's no surprise that some automakers are already thinking about transparent roof racks.

After our trip, Almera was almost 40.000 miles away. Added to the list of damaged or missing equipment is the plastic cover of the left side mirror that got up in Alicante and a cracked 'spoiler' that I believe was damaged on one of the 'tags' on the rubble side. we took because we were too smart when we read the car map. But Almera is not to blame for this. However, in her direction is a broken right mirror, which, somewhere near Marseilles, began to lean towards the asphalt, and it could no longer be persuaded to reflect the image of those who were following us. That with an almost completely “struck” rear window, it became quite inconvenient. Almer showed no other signs of aging.

The consumption on our way averaged a little less than ten liters (9, 6) per hundred kilometers. Given the really high speed we could afford and the adverse weather conditions the Almera had to overcome, it was still within the expected and acceptable range. Anyone looking to get closer to the factory-promised seven and a half liters over long distances will have to make the ride a little easier, and above all, they'll have to have a slightly lighter foot on the accelerator pedal. But I didn't have the feeling that this was impossible to achieve.

Thus, the Nissan Almera is a very useful and reliable car that can withstand many loads without getting on the nerves of passengers and drivers. Longer trips? No problem. With four passengers? Yes, with a basic yoga class. However, you can of course be more boring and just solve the problem by using a roof rack. After all, it is much more pleasant to travel the world in fresh panties.

evaluation

  • Be that as it may, the super proven Almera is firmly entrenched in our hearts, and we must admit that it serves us perfectly. On both shorter and longer routes. However, it is true that two adults are comfortable to ride in comfort, as the comfort in the back seat is different from the comfort in the front seats. But it is already drawing attention to this by the size of the trunk, which is intended primarily for the needs of families with small children. And if we add to this the almost impeccable performance, then we can say that so far we are happy with it. The only error that appeared on the supresta was fixed on the regular service.
