The problem has been known from the very beginning of the automotive industry, as far back as 1919, Eng. Refueling will also be supplemented with refining additives that wear out over time. But what if the station we use is out of oil? Fortunately, modern motor oils can most often be mixed safely, but remember that even topping up with a product with different parameters will be safer for the engine than driving with too low an oil level.

The so-called miscibility means that there are no negative consequences of the use of fillings, such as gelling of the oil, precipitation of additives or other chemical reactions that can cause problems with the lubrication system. According to the requirements of the American API Institute, oils of SG class or higher must be mixed with other oils of the same or higher quality. It should always be assumed that when two different oils are mixed, the resulting mixture will have the parameters of the worst blended oil. When adding oil, you should also follow the same rules as when choosing a replacement, i.e. use an oil that meets the required quality standard and preferably of the same viscosity.

Thus, the main requirements that the filled oil must meet are the quality and viscosity standards specified by the manufacturer. In the car manual you will find specific oil parameters in the form of: viscosity - for example, SAE 5W-30, SAE 10W-40 and quality - for example, ACEA A3 / B4, API SL / CF, VW 507.00, MB 229.51, BMW Longlife- 01. You must select an oil that has the viscosity specified in the manual and meets or exceeds the required quality standard. Then we can be sure that we have chosen the right oil. If the manufacturer of our car allows many different lubricants, it is always worth choosing the best one, because the quality of the oil in the engine will not deteriorate, and such refueling will have a positive effect on the engine.

Of course, any motor oil is better than none. This, of course, refers to the oldest buildings. Newer ones will be safer to use an oil that meets the manufacturer's top-up requirements, so you will need to check the viscosity, such as 5W-30, and the quality, such as API SM. If we have a car from a manufacturer that imposes its own quality standards, it is worth choosing an oil with an exact standard that can be found in the car's owner's manual - for example, MB 229.51 or VW 504 00. Compatibility requirements come in handy when topping up oil - oils of above average quality (API SG standard or higher) are completely miscible with each other. It is worth remembering that refueling is safe.
