Experimental Safety Vehicle (ESF) 2019 is based on the new Mercedes-Benz GLE

German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has unveiled an experimental prototype Experimental Safety Vehicle (ESF) 2019 based on the new Mercedes-Benz GLE crossover.

The new vehicle features an integrated grille, rear window and roof screens, and warning lights to alert other vehicles and pedestrians to autonomous driving and other road hazards.

For more safety, super-bright lights work that are not dazzling and will make their debut in the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class as warning signs appear that act to increase safety: one turns the roof of the car, and the other is a mini-robot that goes out on its own and stands behind the car in case of an accident.

The driver's seat is equipped with folding pedals and a steering wheel that, in autopilot mode, can be retracted into the dashboard. ESF 2019 modifies the seat belt pretensioners and adds the Pre-Safe Curve system, which warns the driver by tightening the seat belt when he is entering a corner at a higher speed. Taking into account the possibility of autonomous control, the location of the airbags in the cabin has also been optimized.

If the electronics detect a risk of impact, the vehicle can move forward to avoid the impact or reduce the impact. For the safety of children, the Pre-Safe Child system is provided, which includes tensioning the seat belt for children and airbags located around the seat, which reduces the risk of injury to a small passenger in an accident. In addition, the electronics monitors the installation of the child seat when boarding the child, as well as his vital signs during the trip.

The car is designed to showcase new technologies in the field of active and passive safety, developed by the German automaker. Several ESF 2019 solutions are expected to appear in production models of Mercedes-Benz in the near future.
