Mazda6 Sport Combi CD163 TE Plus

A good seat - a bad seat, a spacious interior - a cramped trunk, a sports chassis - comfortable damping of bumps, a decisive response - not a communicative return of information ... and, finally, fuel consumption that never reaches the figures promised by the factories. .

This time we approached the matter differently. We took the Mazda6 SPC to the test to take it on a long journey and found out how economical a car can be with 120kW and 360Nm of diesel under the hood.

As for the seat, there is no doubt about it: since we only went on two trips, there are many of them, and the truth is that two more will easily sit next to us, and the route will still be comfortable - even if we went to France. for a week of skiing, not just three days, for a Congress in the heart of Provence.

On Saturday morning, shortly before departure, the navigation device wrote on the screen that the journey there was 827 kilometers, which means eight hours of driving, if there were no unexpected traffic jams on the Italian highways and roads above the Cat. d'Azur.

“Um, this will be a test not only for frugality, but also for endurance,” I thought. I set myself the goal of getting there non-stop and with one tank of fuel. “Will it work? “Then it just became our focus. After all, my colleagues from the editorial office and I also traveled long distances and often intact. I was more worried about Mazda.

Not because I couldn't do it, but because I was afraid she was too greedy. Just under 1.500 kilograms of base weight is no small amount, the 163-horsepower A-pillar needs its own, while the fuel tank holds only 64 liters of fuel.

With the mileage we measured in tests (9 l / 6 km) for such a Mazda in March last year, it was clear that it would not dry out according to my plans. Even if I dried the container to the last drop, I would drive the Mazda for a maximum of 100 kilometers.

Once again, I was encouraged by the information I accidentally found in the instruction booklet: the combined consumption of this Mazda, according to the factory data, was only 5 liters of diesel fuel per 5 kilometers.

“Wow, this is different,” I said to myself. If this is true, then with a 64-liter tank I can easily drive 1.163 kilometers. This is all the way to Provence and another 342 kilometers back. The only doubt that crossed my mind was that none of our test drivers had yet managed to get the test consumption closer to the factory one, let alone reach it!

“Nothing, at least the path will be less boring,” I thought, and ran to the Fernets. Not wanting to risk it (if it wasn't necessary), I filled up there (up to the top and a little further), crossed the border, turned onto the freeway and headed at 135 km / h at a moderate pace supported by cruise control. west.

After a good 400 kilometers, the condition on the road was something like this: average speed - normal, the condition of both buttocks - normal, well-being - normal, fuel consumption - surprisingly normal.

At that time, it was already clear to me that the data on fuel consumption of the March test did not correspond to reality. The Six's Tale drinks much less on open paths. And this is good! At the same time, I was increasingly annoyed by the trip computer, which offers a satisfactory amount of data, but you can only select two in the submenus to display on the screen.

In order not to spoil myself too much, I preferred to do more pleasant things; fatigue-free seat, comfortable interior, pleasant, almost inaudible engine hum in the middle work area and great sound from the Bose sound system in this equipment. And the good eight-hour journey flew by in the blink of an eye.

Two days later, the same way back was waiting for us. Shortly before leaving, I filled up the tank (this time only up to the top and nothing else), drove east, and after less than nine hours of driving, stopped at a gas station at Trzashka cesta in Ljubljana.

The daily odometer at that time showed 865 kilometers, and I poured 56 liters of new into the fuel tank.

And what to write at the end? It is quite obvious that we do not have the lightest legs at the Auto store, and that the costs that we achieve in the usual 14-day tests are not always significant.

But if you are the owner of such a six, then from now on you can safely boast that you do not drink more than 6 liters per 5 kilometers. And also the fact that this data did not grow on your zelnik, but was measured in the Auto store.
