Toyota Camry continues to set sales records - according to the results of July, the Japanese business sedan not only surpassed all classmates, but also confidently entrenched itself in the top ten bestsellers in Russia. In total, Toyota dealers sold 2 Camry in the past month, more than the VW Passat and Mazda985 combined.
In Japan and the USA, meanwhile, the new generation Camry debuted - with a fundamentally different appearance, more powerful engines and an expanded list of options. In Russia, almost at the same time, an updated Camry of the current generation appeared - and it turned out to have more changes than it seems.
The current Camry with the body index XV50 entered the assembly line in 2011. Restyling, which took place at the end of 2014, brought about the most serious changes in the car's appearance. Then the bumpers, radiator grilles, chrome trim and head optics were changed. In the course of the current update, the sedan has also been retouched in appearance, but not so seriously.
However, distinguishing the Camry from its predecessor is not that difficult. Here is a different bumper with fang-shaped turn signals, diode fog lights and new radiator grilles with honeycombs of a different shape. In addition, the palette of colors has been replenished with a new color scheme "brown metallic".
When, towards the end of the XNUMXs, most automakers became involved in downsizing and gradually introduced direct injection and supercharging to their cars, Toyota continued to improve the design of the hybrid drive. However, Toyota's main hybrid Prius still came up with a plug-in scheme (a system with a rechargeable combined power plant). The one offered by many European manufacturers.
And now, in the digital age, the Japanese seem to be looking for their own way again. While many companies are trying to make their cars with smartphones by installing multimedia systems that support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto protocols, the Japanese are introducing the smartphone itself into Camry.
Judge for yourself: the head unit in the Exclusive version runs on Android. Moreover, without any shells - the operating system here is practically clean, with the exception of one detail. Here Yandex.Navigator and the application store of the main domestic IT giant are already preinstalled, where you can download or buy other services for free. But this is subject to the availability of mobile Internet, which appears in the head unit with the installation of a SIM card.
You can buy MTS SIM cards with unlimited internet from Toyota dealers for $ 3,9 per month. If you do not integrate it, then you can distribute the Internet from your smartphone. The multimedia has a Wi-Fi module and can connect to wireless networks. In this case, all services will also work, including the display of traffic jams in the navigator.
The head unit on Android and with Yandex.Navigator is the prerogative of the Exclusive version. And it differs from the rest of the cars in the family with a few more chips. Chief among them is leather trim. But if on the old version of the car only light brown leather with contrasting stitching was available, now you can order black one. One that is available on other high trim levels of the sedan.
By default, this sedan is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels and a new emblem on the trunk lid. The car is powered by a 2,5-liter petrol engine with 181 horsepower.
Actually, the Toyota office said that the Camry model did not rise in price after the update. Indeed, the price of the sedan starts at $ 18. for a car with a two-liter 556 hp engine and "automatic". The Exclusive version with a 150-liter petrol unit delivering 2,5 hp. and a 181-inch multimedia system with Yandex.Navigator will cost $ 10. And the top-end Camry will cost $ 22.
