Lancia Ypsilon 1.2 Ypsilon

Have you ever traveled in Italy and kept your eyes open? Here and there on the country roads one can find luxurious villas hidden behind high, often well-kept fences of trees or, more precisely, ornamental shrubs, and behind them - parks with old trees and a winding road of rubble stretching to the villa. At the very end, at the foot of the stairs leading to the villa, under two huge carved stone lions, a Lancia Ypsilon is parked.

God drives Thesis, possibly a Maserati Quattroporte, Ypsilon is hers. A lady, a lady in her prime, a lady who leaves unlimited amounts of money to beauticians, hairdressers, gyms, Trussardi, Gucci, Armani. The lady knows what she wants.

When you point your finger at a lady, a woman, or a woman in general, you always run the risk of talking about chauvinism. Let it be like this: the lady and gentleman in the above paragraph has a son, a young man of about twenty with a perfectly groomed beard, shiny medium-length hair and a tasteful dress.

A young man knows how to enjoy life; he diligently listens to lectures at the Faculty of Arts, carefully cultivates his image, and Upsilon is his choice. Punto is too plebeian for him.

Of course, things can be very different, Europe does not listen to Lancia at all, but if anyone ever looks behind such cars, one thing is for sure: they know exactly what they are looking for and that is a lot by their appearance. It means the most to him in life; for the same money, he would go home with Stilo, but only Upsilon understands his position in his society. Or at least who he wants to belong to.

Lancia, aka Ypsilon, is not for everyone. Anyone who thinks rationally is right in the beginning. Look at Upsilon: for the same money, you can buy a significantly more powerful, not to mention a more useful Punto or something. Because of this, I immediately exclude the typical German and everyone who consciously or subconsciously wants to be one. The circle of people (at least in our corner of the planet) is rapidly shrinking.

Fortunately! How boring the world would be if everyone looked like typical Lancia buyers. Who would stand out? So don't expect me to list the technically good Ypsilon features. Everything behind the front seats is below average in space.

Getting there is already inconvenient, especially since the back of the front seat, when you fold it, simply returns to its original position. After you manage to get to the back bench, which, by the way, has "only" two seats, you will find that there is not much room for wrinkles. For tadpoles up to one and a half meters, for which gymnastics is still a pleasure, there is a place, and it will be good for a lady's poodle, but very uncomfortable for an adult. He may not even have anywhere to put his feet.

Trunk? Okay, you know that this technique is under the skin of Ypsilon Puntov, which today (no longer) is original sin as we also face this with brands (or problems) that are more numerous in Slovenia, but I assume that you are like then expect what you see and use is roughly at the Punta level.

Well, since you learned something from the above paragraph, no. The trunk can be the size of a Panda, and Panda - in principle - up to completely different people. First of all, it is already smaller in quantity or in (technical) design than Ypsilon.

You have to understand Upsilon with his looks and image and ask him for an exceptionally good communication technique. And there is no offense, at least not significant. If you choose what we are doing now, you have chosen the cheapest Ypsilon, which most likely means that you do not have a villa and you buy clothes in Interspar or through the Neckermann catalog, but somewhere deep inside you are at the address at least a little aristocracy. to afford a little bit of prestige.

You are not mistaken in your choice, although such an Upsilon is not the one that would show itself in the right light. Okay, maybe the (smallest) bike will satisfy you, as it does pretty decently in and out of town after all, but if you take the Ypsilon as a luxury, highway driving is not at all like that.

It will be a little embarrassing if the Mazda B2500 Pickup overtakes you, for example, without a problem. But you can still pretend that driving 110 kilometers along the Vrhnik slope is actually a pleasure.

If you drive most of the route in the city and rarely close outside of it, 1.2 will be sufficient. It leaves town well, lively, which means you don't have to be embarrassed in front of other road users, the flexibility at city and suburban speeds will always surprise you, and you will sit in an environment that has favorable conditions. affects you.

Front seat space is luxurious (at least for this class) and the surroundings give it a prestigious look. At least at first and second glance. The more visible part of the plastic is of a higher quality grade, and you will also have the fabric you expect from dashboard seats.

In the middle, right at the top, is (still like its predecessor) a block with sensors, which (this time) have a much more prestigious look. A bit archaic, with background color and numbers, but still well visible and well visible, they also contain a tachometer and an on-board computer. There's no coolant temperature gauge, but you probably won't miss it either, you'll get a little more angry about the awkwardness of controlling the on-board computer. Unless, of course, you want to use it at all.

Driving, as is now the case with all small Fiat cars and its derivatives, is extremely simple. The steering wheel can be adjusted in depth and height, the driver's seat can be adjusted in height, so the driving position can be pleasant.

The pedals along with the left foot support are decent enough and the gear lever is very close to the steering wheel. Of course, since it sits right on the dashboard and while it may give you doubts at first, the first few kilometers will completely dispel that doubt. Her movements are light and precise, but if desired, they are also very fast.

Inherited from the Punto is also an electric power steering that provides two-stage power; for normal driving you usually think of a "harder" option, and for parking and similar antics you think of a "softer" option at the push of a button, but you can of course decide on your own. In any case (also) with Ypsilon you will not suffer while driving, but if you do, it will not be the fault of auto mechanics.

Since you are sitting in one of the cheaper upsilons, you may be distracted by a few small things. There is no cure for the cheap plastic between the seats and around the door handles, but there is undoubtedly a cure for the air conditioner knobs. Due to the material and appearance, the theme would not in any way make room in a prestigious car, and the medicine is called a “surcharge” for an automatic air conditioner.

But if you can get through it, I think the air conditioner will not disappoint you; it is surprisingly effective for cooling a hot car, foggy windows on wet days, and heating a room in cold weather.

If you imagine Lancia to look like the people at the beginning of this post, you probably miss a few other things about this Ypsilon: an outside temperature sensor, more room for small items, more accurate (especially external, i.e. body) joints, automatic sliding rear window , rear side sliding glass, electric outside mirrors, illuminated (and cooled), and above all at least a slightly larger drawer in front of the passenger, more efficient space for cans and pockets on the backrests. T

make it easy by saying that you can pay extra for some of them, that you get most of them by opting for a richer hardware package (or combined with a more powerful engine), or that you just can't have everything in this world.

If you own a Fiat, you will surely be happy with the fact that you don't need a key to open the tailgate and unscrew the fuel filler flap, which is not quite the case with the cars of the Turin brand.

The radio is surprisingly good too, although the buttons are not the most ergonomic, but it will undoubtedly be nice to know that you are staying in a Lancia. Of course, if it means something to you.

A lady will probably be especially grateful for a motorcycle that always runs cold or hot in an instant, but its consumption, which even during the chase, if you are annoyed by the fast Mazda B2500, is not so great that the range of such a Lancia is small. You will be able to drive at least 500 kilometers, and even then, on your own whim, you will go for more fuel. Namely: the engine is satisfied with six liters per 100 kilometers and we did not manage to get much more than eight, although we tried very hard.

But the reason you opt for Ypsilon is certainly not economics. If you’ve at least forcibly read this record, you know all before that. Ypsilon will always symbolically express your image that you deserve or just want. Well - it doesn't matter, does it?

Overall rating (297/420)

  • It is technically and design perfectly engineered, and in order to impress a real Lancia Ypsilon, the engine had to be more powerful and, above all, some equipment was missing. It is a pity for the very poor plastic interior. Otherwise: driver image guaranteed with this Lancia!

  • Exterior (11/15)

The exterior is neat, recognizable from afar and pleasantly nostalgic. The construction is rather superficial.

  • Interior (101/140)

There is ample space and comfort in the front seats, as well as very good ergonomics. The downside is the back of the car: the rear seats and the trunk.

  • Engine, transmission (26

    / 40)

In terms of characteristics and technology, the engine is average. The gearbox is a bit long, but with excellent performance.

  • Driving performance (78

    / 95)

The Ypsilon is very easy to operate and has an easy-to-handle handling even under physical constraints. Good braking feel.

  • Performance (18/35)

An engine cannot turn a car into an athlete. Highway speed and flexibility at high speeds are especially slow.

  • Security (31/45)

It has protective curtains but no side cushions. He stops in the middle and on the right is dead just as significant. Otherwise, the visibility is normal.

  • Economy

The engine is compensated by very low consumption and a very long range. However, the price is quite high, although something goes to the detriment of the resulting image.
