Short test: Renault Kangoo Express Maxi 1.5 dCi 110

When we talk about delivery, most of us primarily think of a white plucked two-man metal box on wheels, the main purpose of which is to transport the craftsman and his equipment from point A to point B. Comfort, equipment and such things are not very important.

The Kangoo Maxi turns it around a bit. First of all, it should be noted that it is available in three body variants or three different lengths. Compact, which is a smaller version of the standard Kangoo Express, and Maxi, which is an extended version. Their length is 3,89 meters, 4,28 meters and 4,66 meters. The Maxi we drove in our tests was also equipped with an innovative rear seat that brings freshness to this class of cars. The folding bench is less comfortable than the regular Kangoo, which is designed to carry passengers.

The biggest difference is the measured legroom, which is enough, say, to carry children, while the average tall adult construction site worker will have to squeeze in a little, especially if there are three people in the back. While the comfort is not as high as we are accustomed to in the Kangoo, it is this back bench that solves the dilemma of transporting three more people to the site, where, for example, they do finishing work. I also liked the ingenious solution in which the head restraints are installed directly on the safety net. This separates the cargo area and the passenger compartment so that it mounts directly to the rear of the rear seat and extends to the ceiling. When the bench is folded, which folds in exactly two seconds by pressing the lever and significantly increases the volume of the cargo compartment, which also has a flat bottom when the bench is folded, the usable volume of the boot increases to 4,6 cubic meters. Thus, you can carry loads up to 2.043 millimeters in length, but if it is longer, then a double-leaf tailgate will come in handy.

The cargo space at the base, with the bench installed, is 1.361 millimeters long and 1.145 millimeters wide when you factor in the distance between the inner widths of the rear fenders. With a payload of up to 800 kg and a volume with the rear seat folded down, the Kangoo Maxi is already positioning itself as a higher class delivery vehicle.

Finally, a few words about the driver's space. We can say that it is well equipped for its type of car, everything is transparent and logically placed. Most impressive are the boxes or storage spaces specially designed for this. At the top of the armature in front of the driver, there is such a convenient place to store A4 documents, which will be safely stored in one place, and not scattered throughout the car. Since the level of equipment was the highest, it also has a perfectly functioning navigation and multimedia system, as well as a hands-free system via Bluetooth connection.

A few more words about the economy. The tested Kangoo was equipped with the most powerful diesel engine, namely the 1.5dCi with 109 horsepower, which during the test consumed 6,5 liters per 100 kilometers and showed good torque. You can also praise the long service interval. An oil change is planned every 40.000 km.

The base model Kangooi Maxi with air conditioning, power windows, cruise control, front passenger airbag, eco-driving program (which can be activated at the touch of a button) and rubber floor covering in the luggage compartment costs 13.420 euros. ... The test version, which was richly equipped, costs more than 21.200 euros for pennies. These are, of course, regular prices without discounts. As the end of the year approaches, when the accounting situation may indicate that it would be wise to buy a new truck, it is likely a good time to negotiate a reduced price.

evaluation

  • The Kangoo Maxi imposes itself heavily on higher-end vans, but at the same time, it stays within the size range that allows it to function well even when we're busy in the city. The folding bench is a great solution for emergency transport of workers, so we can only praise it for its innovation.
