Short test: Peugeot 5008 Allure 1.6 BlueHDi 120 EAT6

Peugeot 5008 arrived on Slovenian roads (like many European ones) with a significant delay. But he was fine, only the success tax he paid. And again not mine. Peugeot took a revolutionary step before it with the launch of the new 3008. This was also reflected in customer interest, which was so great that Peugeot had to decide whether to take care of the many buyers of the 3008 or abandon them and even offer an additional version, that is, the 5008.

The delay in some markets for the larger 5008 was probably a good move. When you have a model that sells like a hot bun, it's best to focus on it first and then on everything else, even if the two cars are very close on one side and quite far away on the other.

In principle, we can say that 5008 is just one more number than 3008. It is almost 20 centimeters longer, and the luggage compartment is a third larger. If you add the seven-seat option, the difference is clear.

But it's the difference we see, feel, and ultimately pay for. In fact, the 5008 clearly evolved from the smaller 3008. From the winner. From the car that won the flattering title of European and Slovenian Car of the Year last year. I confess, I also voted for him both times. That’s why I’m perhaps the more attentive to the larger 5008, and therefore I’m looking even more under his fingers. Also because it is newer, but still a copy. But the copy is smaller and more successful.

The 5008 test has been tuned with Allure hardware (the third in a row), which provides enough standard equipment in the car for even a pampered driver to use. However, there is no navigation equipment in it, which I definitely consider a disadvantage. Much more than the extra charge for the Grip Control system (which ensures that the 5008 AWD can also be delivered on the route reserved for AWDs), the Safety Plus package, and finally the metallic paint that actually has to be paid for by every car make.

There were fewer problems with the engine. The already well-known 1,6-liter four-cylinder engine offers 120 "horsepower", which should correspond to a good ton and 300 kilograms, which is more than not the same as the smaller 3008. This proves once again that the 5008 is the best option. really big car, but everything else is more than not the same. A body that is only 20 centimeters long does not carry much more weight. However, the 5008 accelerates from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in a good half second, and the top speed is also five kilometers lower compared to the smaller 3008; Both cars are equipped with the same, more than decent six-speed automatic transmission. Something definitely has to be attributed to aerodynamics, and the decisive difference in (extra) weight can of course be attributed to the extra seats. And by comparison, the 3008 also handles winding roads better, but it's true that there's nothing wrong with the Peugeot 5008's handling. Another thing is when 5008 is fully loaded. Seven seats is already a lot, but if they are still taken, the 1,6-liter diesel has its hands. In the event that the car will be fully occupied in most cases, I still recommend a larger and clearly more powerful two-liter diesel.

evaluation

  • The new 5008, commendable even though the shape is different from its predecessor, still offers a seven-seat option. The latter is highly valued by many large families, and in Peugeot the number of seats is not determined only by the purchase of a car. All 5008 models are basically seven-seat adapted, which means that even when buying a used 5008 that the previous buyer only had five seats in, the new owner may decide to buy two extra seats separately and easily fit them into a used 5008. This will make the car popular with all buyers - those who buy a car for fewer people and more luggage, and, of course, with large families.
