Short test: Opel Astra 1.7 CDTI (96 kW) Cosmo (5 doors)

Of course, time is a relative concept, the latest generation of Astra, to which “experts” add the I mark, has been available to customers since the beginning of 2010, that is, for a good three years. Relatively little, but when you sit behind the wheel of her and drive her on the roads, you wonder: is she really with us for only three years? At first glance, he already seems like a real native. In many respects also very peculiar (for example, the infotainment system control buttons on the center console), surprising in many respects, for example, with an average fuel consumption of 6,2 liters per 100 km, despite about two hundred that Opel engineers "forgotten". » in construction. sheet metal housings.

Astra has always lived in the shadow of two more successful competitors in the Slovenian market, Golf and Mégane. But in terms of what it offers, it doesn't lag far behind them, only the Astra has other features besides the Golf (Volkswagen simplicity) or Mégane (French inconsistency). The sailors want to convince the advantages of the Astra, especially those who care about comfort (rear axle damping adjustment or Flexride) and seats (AGR front seats).

The 1,7-liter turbo diesel seems like a good choice when buying an Astra too. In normal use, the turbo hole initially gets in the way as you have to push the throttle hard to start. The operation of this machine is commendable, perhaps too noisy, but it still has enough power in all conditions and at the same time surprises with a very solid average power consumption. What we have achieved in our test can be greatly improved by the driver who stands with caution. I can only add that the Opel engine designers did their job better than others, as the Astra would probably be a very exemplary car without the aforementioned excess weight in terms of economy.

The Astra's cockpit is more or less made for the front passenger only, with plenty of room for knick-knacks in the center console (if we give up canning), with rather simple ergonomics and the only dissatisfaction with the radio buttons, computer and navigation control system. ...

Unfortunately, behind the excellent seats behind the front passengers (with AGR mark and surcharge), there is not enough room for the knees of the rear passengers or the legs of children in the additional seats. The trunk also seems flexible and big enough.

Our test Astra was richly equipped and therefore increased in price by more than 20 thousand, but the car is worth its money, and its (discount) can be added by the negotiating vein of potential buyers.
