Short test: Honda Civic 1.6 i-DTEC Sport

After all, we intend to have a purchased car (unless it is a company car) for some time, and there is no room for error. It is true that we choose the car that we like, but it must be useful and rational. This largely means a turbodiesel engine. Okay, for shorter city routes, a simple petrol station is sufficient, but if we want to travel even further and in company, gasoline "horses" can quickly get in trouble. With diesels, it's different: there is 50 percent more torque and even longer routes are easier to navigate.

However, not all so simple. At least not yet at Honda. Along with the 1,4- and 1,8-liter petrol engines (with an unconvincing 100 and 142 "horsepower" respectively), the only diesel choice for the middle class was certainly the (too) large 2,2-liter engine. Yes, with 150 "horses", but for the average user there may be too many of them. But such a large engine is certainly too expensive, especially when registering a car, paying tolls, and ultimately maintaining the entire vehicle.

The Civic is now finally also available with a smaller and much more suitable 1,6-liter turbodiesel engine, and potential buyers of the new car can count the new candidate among the many competitors without hesitation. With the new engine, the Civic is more than 2,2 euros cheaper than the 2.000-liter turbodiesel version and, above all, the engine is new and technologically advanced. This is the main reason why he was gone for so long. Honda just took their time and designed it the way it should be. Compared to its more powerful counterpart, the total weight is less than 50 kilograms, so the difference of 30 "horses" is even less known.

At the same time, the gearbox was redesigned, which is now not Japanese, but rather Swiss. Driving is above average, at least when it comes to medium sized cars with diesel engines. The only thing that worries me a little is the unpleasant feeling when starting up - it seems like the engine is straining, but the next moment it works like clockwork. Of course not, when 120 "horsepower" is more than jumping and 300 Nm of torque. So it's no surprise that the Civic hits a top speed of 1,6 km/h with the new 207-litre turbodiesel. More impressive than that number is the fact that at normal highway speeds, the engine spins at a slow speed, which of course means very low fuel consumption. Thus, the average was less than six liters per 100 kilometers, and even more impressive was the consumption rate, which was only a little over four liters.

So I can easily write that the new engine Honda Civic is again very competitive in its class of cars. Especially if you want to stand out a little, because the Civic won't disappoint you with its shape. As for the quality of workmanship, even though the car is made in Europe and not in Japan, not a word can be lost. This means that it is really useful again.

evaluation

  • The Honda Civic is a car that has changed a lot over many generations. It was originally intended for general use, then came the period when he was the favorite of fans of fast and small cars. Right now, the design is still quite sporty, but unfortunately, these are not living motors. There are none, they are very strong. The 1,6-litre turbodiesel, which impresses with its power, torque and, above all, fuel consumption, is therefore by far the best choice at the moment. In addition, it is not even that "diesel".
