Short test: Fiat 500L 1.6 Multijet 16V Lounge

Due to its large size, it is not as attractive as the revived legend, the base Fiat 500, but inside it has much more space, especially in the trunk. Thanks to the longitudinally movable rear seat and vertical hips, it can hold about 400 liters of luggage, which is 215 liters more than the base Fiat 500. The double bottom helps to divide the luggage space in two, although the items in the basement are heavier. we did not notice the shelves. If the rear shelf were screwed on in the classical way, and not by careless gluing and ineffective use of the hedgehog, I would definitely raise the salaries of Serbian workers in Kragujevac and strategists in Turin.

The Fiat 500 family boasts, year after year, as do the modern Mini. So consumers do have a choice, but they seem to overshadow the reborn originals. But the youth is growing, and those for whom the Fiat 500 was big enough until recently needed more family space.

In this respect, the Fiat 500L is impressive: There is really a lot of legroom and headroom, and in the trunk we will once again praise the longitudinally movable rear bench (12 centimeters!). As you can also see in the photo, the test Fiat 500L was very nicely decorated on the seats, and the panoramic roof window (standard equipment!) And better materials in the interior made it feel a little better. The pleasing design also comes at a price, as the seats are high and lack side bolsters, and the steering wheel is proof that beauty doesn't always go hand in hand with usability. At the same time, we add that the City feature in the electrically controlled power steering is welcome, especially in car parks, and that the electrically adjustable lumbar backrest is worth noting in the accessories list.

If we ignore the other three functions, namely, turning on the wipers by turning the right steering wheel (instead of more convenient pressing up or down), viewing trip computer data in one direction only, and disabling cruise control, which always wakes up all sleeping passengers when braking smoothly. which can be mitigated by a premature shutdown with a button) The Fiat 500L is to be commended. The chassis is soft but still stiff enough that the taller 500Ls don't cause weakness, the drivetrain is precise despite the longer shift lever movements, and the engine is superb.

Under the hood we had a new 1,6-liter turbo diesel with 77 kilowatts (or more of the domestic 105 "horsepower"), which turned out to be an excellent alternative to the more modern two-cylinder gasoline engines with forced injection. It may not be the quietest at the higher revs, but it is therefore generous with torque at lower revs and, above all, very modest in terms of thirst. On average, we used only 6,1 liters on the test, and in a normal circle it turned out to be as much as 5,3 liters. The trip computer promised even better results, but the flies did not.

Considering the fact that the 500L with the Lounge label was well-stocked with basic equipment (ESP stabilization system, start assist system, four airbags and curtain airbags, cruise control and speed limiter, automatic dual-zone air conditioning, car radio with for touchscreen and bluetooth, power supply to all four side windows and 16-inch alloy wheels) that it comes with a five-year warranty and that you get a permanent two thousandth discount on your purchase is worth noting. While it looks good with a black roof ($ 840) and 17-inch wheels with 225/45 tires ($ 200), doesn't it?

  • If the 500L is just a compromise between the classic Cinquecent and the 20cm longer 500L Living, it's more useful than you might initially think.
