Short test: Chevrolet Cruze SW 2.0 D LTZ

All this, of course, greatly increases the usability of the car, and when we walk around it, we have nothing to complain about. The SW is a beautiful family car with a thoughtful design that impresses with its lines. Even a close look shows that it is composed so precisely that we have nothing to complain about. If anyone has prejudice against Chevrolets, Cruz is definitely unfair to them.

Measuring a good four and a half meters in length, it is not inferior to competitors. Even an economic criterion, when a buyer asks himself how much car he gets for each euro invested, does not give him a headache. However, it gets stuck when the barrel size is the deciding criterion. With just under 500 liters of luggage space with upright seating, at least some of the competition is ahead of it. When we remove the seats, there is nothing better.

At that time, of course, there was no shortage of space, but for such a car it would be very convenient if the backrests, say, were aligned with the bottom of the trunk when folded forward. But make no mistake, the trunk has two other very positive features. The boot edge is flat and well protected, so all the luggage we load easily fits into the car's “backpack”. It also has handy drawers and storage space to keep small items from rolling in the trunk during acceleration and deceleration.

Even otherwise, there are always plenty of drawers and storage spaces for phones, a wallet, a coffee pot for the trip, all very creative and praiseworthy.

Ease of use also benefits from the spaciousness of the front seats and rear split seat. Four adult passengers should never have a problem with comfort, only the fifth passenger sitting in the middle of the back seat will get a little less comfort. There is also a problem with the legs as the middle hump is quite high. You can also praise the height of the ceiling at the rear - passengers will not crash into the ceiling.

The versatility of the Cruze SW is demonstrated while driving. It is surprisingly easy to handle and gives a good feel for moderate driving. Even cornering on country roads doesn't give him a headache, but things get more difficult when the road is bumpy or bumpy. For a shade of greater comfort, it will come in handy. On the highway and when driving at high speeds, we boast a decent soundproofing of the cabin, so that passengers can talk to each other in a completely relaxed way without straining their vocal cords, the same goes for listening to music from a very good audio system. for this class.

If the buttons and everything related to the management of all information equipment (on-board computer) were not a little demanding to get used to, the Cruze with the highest level of equipment would have earned a decent five. Especially when you consider that this is an economy car, and not a luxury van, the equipment and interior design inadvertently mislead a person into thinking if he is really sitting in a car that forever carries him out of the cabin. 20 thousand, or maybe in a car, well, almost half the price.

In addition to all this, one cannot fail to note a good six-speed transmission. Don't expect a sporty character from it, but it will always excel at moderate and sometimes slightly dynamic driving. The engine, which is by far the third strong point in terms of equipment and appearance, on which the Cruz's credibility is based, is lively, with a lot of torque and reasonable thirst. Without burdening the consumption and taking into account the speed limit, the consumption will be from six and a half to seven liters. The slightly more dynamic ride, however, quickly transcends the fairly wallet-friendly average.

But while there are cars that use less power for a similar size and performance, with everything it has to offer (and it really is a great deal), the Cruze SW's interesting value is a car where economy and usability go hand in hand. With the most powerful engine and the highest level of equipment, it forms a beautiful package that lacks a little more comfort and sophistication in driving technology. But with this, we may already be moving too far into another price segment.

evaluation

  • Nice, lavishly furnished, but not the largest in terms of trunk size. The car is definitely very useful and nice. The engine and transmission are good, the consumption is moderately moderate, but all this does not stand out from the average. That definitely means a lot of good car for good money, which is otherwise unremarkable or disappointing.
