Short test: Chevrolet Cruze 2.0D LTZ (5 doors)

In an environment of intense internationalization, it is difficult to determine a lump sum; everything in the introduction applies, but it is also true that Chevrolet is an American brand, that there are many dollars behind it, and that developers, including designers, came from everywhere. If it was made in Chile, would it be a Chilean car?

The mixture, or rather the confusion with the origin, is the subject of controversy and does not in the least affect the impression of the product. This Cruze, for example, has five doors, making the rear less stable than the four-door, but it's also more useful because there is a large door in the rear, not just the boot lid. The trunk is slightly smaller than the sedan, but practically expandable to 900 liters. This is also not a record, far from it, but it is more comfortable than a sedan.

This Tale Cruze is powered by the most powerful turbo diesel on offer. The car is a bit uneducated, which suggests that this is not the last technical generation: it is quite tough and loud, wakes up almost instantly and therefore in jerks, at 1.900 rpm, and hence its power increases dramatically. From this point of view, considering also the short ratio transmission (top speed in last, sixth gear), it seems that this Cruze had a noticeable sporting appetite. Not only the acceleration and speed are impressive, but above all the flexibility: in sixth gear, the counter shows the time from 100 to 200 kilometers per hour, easily and quickly!

In addition to performance, the engine also boasts low fuel consumption. According to the trip computer, it consumes 60 liters per 3,5 km / h, 100 per 5,2, 130 per 6,8 and 160 9,3 liters of diesel fuel per 100 km / 11,3 km; In the test, despite the pressure, we did not set goals for more than XNUMX, and with moderate driving, a good eight liters.

Based on this, such a Cruze is looking for a family man with a few more sporting ambitions, at least when he is alone in the car. The mechanics will serve it well, although given the sporty nature of the engine, the whole mechanics seem a little unsettled. The steering wheel, for example, will be more appealing (lower) to average drivers who are not keen on driving dynamics due to little cornering resistance, and this sporty dad will therefore miss out on tangible feedback about what is going on under the front wheels.

The road position is also good and reliable, it even seems that this Cruze loves corners, but when driving fast, there are too many inclines, especially sideways. On the other hand, the chassis absorbs uneven lateral irregularities very well, which will again delight the ordinary driver and passengers.

This is the case if you want to please most of the different buyers, but want to package everything at an affordable, acceptable and enticing price. But still - fortunately, there is such an offer. Which in a concrete form is far from so little!

evaluation

  • The most powerful diesel engine wants Cruz to find a client who wants and should serve the family, but at the same time is more sporty in character and at the same time wants to move more dynamically. Technically, this is a very good mix of space and performance, but in practice the mix is somewhat stretched between different typical clients.

We praise and reproach
